Remodelling a small kitchen...Is Ikea a good place to go for design, product and installation? They seem to know so much about getting the maximum out of a very small area (we are in a very small condo, renovated, used to be the top floor of a home with 4 bedrooms and a bathroom. Now it has an office, kitchen and an living/dining room combo that used to be 2 bedrooms. The third floor attic is now the bedroom. Comments on Ikea for everything may help.
Can anyone recomend a good website for kitchen designs? I'm trying to re design my (very small) kitchen and would like some ideas for colour schemes and layout. Would like a website with some ideas.
Design ideas for small teenage apartment indie rock? Hey So I need to redecorate. I really do! I'm an artist, I love Death Cab, I'm a photographer, I paint, etc, love anything artistic and a little bit different. I like in a one bedroom, small kitchen, small shower room, small room (with built in wardrobes) hallway and toilet apartment. Can't paint the walls. I want some design ideas. Anything, help! Oh, and I'm practically broke. Hahah, cheers!
I need help in kitchen/dining design please? I chose a dark cherry cabinets for the kitchen we are remodeling right now. It is a U-shaped kitchen. My husband keeps telling me that the color I picked will darken a small kitchen and makes it smaller. Do you have a suggestion on what type of granite countertop to pick? The color of the floor tile is white with a hint of tan-ish or light brown color on it. I want the kitchen to look contemporary, bright, and also what type of dining set I should pick. Post some photos as well please. Thank you.
Who in the UK would you recommend to design and fit your kitchen? A small kitchen (like a galley kichen) and what price did you pay? Thanks
How much should one pay a contractor for priming and painting cabinets in a small kitchen? Stripping the paint is already done. Wood cabinets with a wood like wallpaper design I think.

I am looking for an inexpensive home design for a small and narrow lot 28x72. I want a simple lean to shape.? Most homes are too wide and the modernist homes are nice but too expensive. I only need windows on the front and the back. I do not need a garage, but I do need a drive. I have front and back street access and it needs to be built on piers. I would like 2 bedrooms with 1 or 2 baths and an open floor plan with the living and kitchen areas. It should be 1,000 sq ft or under and a very simple inexpensive design. I feel like I have few options because I want to keep the cost down and no one makes money that way. I only need maybe 2 interior doors at the most and I would like my closets to have rolling barn style panels. I do not want a pitched roof but I do want a lean to style roof, so the living room seems vaulted but I can put the duct work above the ceiling in the bedrooms. I want the bedroom and baths on one side, with a porch and living space on the otherside possibly wrapping around the back. It does not seem that this should be so complicated. Help where can I get a design cheap.
looking for plans for small kitchn? can you help me lay out a rough plan for a kitchen re-design project for small spaces ?
How do I find a kitchen designer for a small job? I can afford to re-do my (12') kitchen island right now, and I'm not getting much attention from Lowe's or Home Depot; the designer hasn't called back. What are the other options? DIY is not practical, so I'm not going there. Who else can help me design this island? Where else, besides other Big Boxes, can I go for design and product? I'm looking at upper-end stock cabinets to semi-custom. Thanks for your time and help! ~Kimber in Dallas, TX
Kitchen paint color scheme - interior decorating/design question HELP!? Help! My kitchen needs a makeover! Here's what has to stay - the floor has a marbled look to it - it is mostly white but has blueish gray in it, the cabinets are a beautiful dark wood to match the rest of the trim in our home, and the countertop is pale blue. The kitchen is quite small, and sort of dark because of all of the dark wood cabinets, but I am not willing to paint the cabinets. I consider myself to be good at interior design, but I am just stumped because of the high contrast between the pale blue countertop and the dark cabinets. I love the floor, but hate the countertop. I know you can buy paint to paint the counter, but I am too scared to do that. I would consider having someone put new laminate on the countertop, but I have no idea how much this would cost or who (a store?) you would go to to ask about this. Another problem I have is that there is a LOT of trim in our kitchen. This means I have to decide on two colors instead of one. Currently the kitchen is the same as it was when we moved in last year - I've done the rest of the house but am stumped on the kitchen. Right now the walls are sort of a pale greenish blue and the trim is sort of a light evergreen, and there is flowerish border around to tie all the blues/greens/beiges together. It certainly doesn't look bad, but its just kind of "blah" and doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't reflect my style or the fact that I'm 24 and really into interior design. I'm also scared to pair the blue with yellow because of it looking too country-ish. Please help! One more thing - my living room is off the kitchen, but through a doorway, and it is done in monochromatic shades of the aquaish color that's so hot right now - if anyone is familiar with Pier 1, its the color that they have a lot of pieces and curtains in. If I stick with blue or green in the kitchen, won't this clash with the aqua in the livingroom? Many are suggesting painting an accent wall another color - my kitchen is sort of circular with cabinets all around - there is no ceiling to floor wall in the whole kitchen without cabinets or the bar against it.
how much will a new fitted kitchen cost? roughly? to design and fit a small to medium sized kitchen, contempory design fitted by the pros too!!! in the UK, also a new bathroom? just want an idea nothing specific
Creative Ways to Decorate 676 sq. ft apartment? SMALL KITCHEN Problem.? I am moving from a small (535 sq. ft) to a seemingly much much bigger 676 sq. ft. apartment this month. I am moving from second floor to third, so I will have vaulted ceilings. I am allowed to paint, and I really want to. I wanted to know of a forum or any ideas that I could get from other people for general ideas of using color, or fun interior design ideas. I love bright colors, but what colors are the easiest to paint back over with creme? Also, what can I do with lighting and such now that I will have vaulted ceilings? I also have a VERY small galley style kitchen still. Like, I can't open my closet door and fridge at the same time they are so close. I love DIY, so any creative ideas that I can make would be great!! Thanks so much! :)
Suggestions for kitchen cabinets (color and style). ??? In the stages of designing the kitchen for our new home. It is a galley style kitchen. The dining area extends past the kitchen area and I don't want to put any type of bar for eating on the ends of the cabinets. I feel this will only close the area. Since the kitchen/eating and greatroom are an open floor plan, I will be using hardwood through this entire area. I am leaning toward the french cream with a glaze. It will be a small kitchen. So my cabinets will have to be designed to utilize space very efficiently. I will not be able have many upper wall cabinets, and I would like to use glass doors on a few doors to "dress-up" the look. If you can suggest a website to design a kitchen, that would be great. (not the hgtv one, it doesn't help me) Countertop colors??? I will probably use a granite.
I need help with the kitchen.please? We're building our house, but we have to figure out a kitchen design, none of us could bring a solution for the kitchen which is small , do you please have any website (with pics) to give me, in order to have a clear idea about our future kitchen.

Kitchen remodel -- black granite floor and black granite countertop? I have a small kitchen that I want to remodel. I like the look of the black granite floor tiles and I also like the black granite counter tops. If I were to do both in the black granite, would this look bad? I have never seen it done so I thought maybe it was a design faux pas.

Help with my Interior Design resume cover letter? am an Interior Designer, specializing in Kitchen and Bath design. I have not worked for the last 18 months due to an extended maternity leave. I am currently looking for part-time employment. I have a really great resume and cover letter...if I was just looking for a kitchen designer position. With the current economy, my industry just isn't doing so well, in turn, not hiring. A few of the places in which I would like to apply are small, family-owned, one interior designer. I would make a great assistant to a designer or project manager. How can I word that into my cover letter without coming right out and saying " I would make a great assistant" or sounding like I'm begging for a job? The following is my cover letter. Please give me some ideas as to how I can improve it so I'm not pigeon-holed into just kitchen design, as I would take anything at this point. I really want to at least stay in the design industry, so even receptionist at a design studio, etc. would be great. COVER LETTER: Dear Sir or Madam, We live in a world where styles change constantly and fresh ideas are always in demand. Professionals in every field, especially interior design, must be aware of these changes and possess the flexibility and imagination to stay ahead of the trends. I have the training and ability it takes to produce compelling designs for clients. My associate’s degree in interior design and my work experiences have taught me how to bring ideas to life, on time and under budget. I also possess the clerical skills needed to aid a business in maintaining organization and efficiency. The enclosed resume elaborates on the details of my skills and experience. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how I could be a great addition to your business. Please contact me at the above telephone number or e-mail address with any opportunity you feel is compatible with my skill set. Thank you for your consideration, I look forward to talking with you. Sincerely,
what to do with my bedroom (16yo, decorating wise)? my parents are renovating the house, the first thing they did was renovate their bedroom (paint and all) and add an ensuite to their bedroom. next was the kitchen, then they added an extension to the family room. all the while little ol me is downstairs in a excrement hole. i have ripped and torn carpet from the 70's. filthy 20yo curtains, my room was made smaller for them to change the staircase (doesnt worry me) so i have exposed drywall, hasnt even been patched and sanded. my other walls are just filthy blonde bricks. ANYWAY ive had enough, its like theve forgotten me, tomorrow ill be moving all my furniture outside and doing the prep work so they have 2 reno my room next. i need design tips, im thinking of going with white walls, black bedspread with black accessories and stainless steel lamps/ accessories as well but it seems a little bland. how can i spice it up a bit? id like to keep it within budget (id be payin for all accessories) but i am able 2 splurge on a few things

Need Spanish Translation for House Interior Design.? Downstairs: Living room with all the furnishings. One easy chair and two large sofas. A fireplace for when it gets cold during the winter. Dining room with a large dining table and many chairs for when we have dinner parties. A chandelier would make the room look more elegant. Kitchen with expensive appliances. Large refrigerator for all the food. Dishwasher because I hate to do the dishes. Stove and oven to cook the meals. There would be one bathroom downstairs with only a toilet and sink. Upstairs: One master bedroom and five regular bedrooms. The master bedroom would have a king size bed and large walk-in closet for all the clothes. Each of the other bedrooms would have queen size beds with smaller closets. The master bedroom would have its own bathroom with an large shower, toilet, and sink. There would be two other bathrooms upstairs with regular showers, toilets, and sinks.
Where can I buy an apple peeler/corer? I need an apple peeler for a very small food processing plant. It can't be one designed for kitchen use. It has to to go to be the next step.
What Backsplash design and Tile? Here is a picture of my kitchen. http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/1885/kitchen1ep1.jpg It is a very small kitchen....but it's cozy. I just replaced all of my 1960's, rotted cabinets with the ones in the picture. I am a single guy so I am not very good at picking out colors that will go well so I need your help in deciding a backsplash idea. I was thinking white glossy tiles with a counter top matching pattern every so often. Please keep in mind that I WILL be painting this room and I am open for color suggestions. I am also going to put 12" ceramic tile down on the floor. I was thinking of a dark tan/Brown color. Any help would be GREAT! All ideas are welcome even if you do not like mine. I can install everything but coming up with something that matches is SO HARD! Go Figure.... Another picture from the opposite side...... http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/90/kitchen3bs4.jpg
what is a fair salary for this job? it's a full-time (40 hr) position in a small independent kitchen shop/restaurant. I would be in charge of all purchasing for the retail aspect of the business, developing a new bridal registry program, increasing the scope of product offered by bringing in table linens and dinnerware, etc. to boost the registry, customer service, training 2-3 sales people, receiving all merchandise, checking it in when it arrives, and developing the merchandising/visual plan for the store and windows. I have ten years retail experience, several years as a manager, and several years in merchandising and interior design. Should this be a strict wage/salary position or low salary and high bonus based on performance? I was offered $1600 monthly plus monthly bonuses of 5-25% of the business' increase over last year numbers...I was expecting in the neighborhood of $35K ann. plus small performance bonuses monthly or quarterly.
Colour advice for VERY dark kitchen? Looks like I've been lumbered with coming up with ideas for mum's kitchen, this happens every year as soon as I get a break from uni she expects me to pretty much single-handidly design & paint a room :-S, I usually don't mind but the kitchen really has me stumped. Dad chose the most old fashioned style, darkest wood possible for the cupboards, I googled & found a similar style & colour http://www.duraoak.net/assets/images/Dales-Dallas-Kitchen02.jpg Changing the cupboards is not possibe so we have to brighten the room with the paint & accesories alone, aside from the dark wood, our kitchen is pretty much devoid of all light, the sun shines through every other window in the house but just avoids it, even though the kitchen is a good size the dullness makes it seem smaller. So any ideas on colour & light, from you lovely creative people on answers would be v. much appreciated.
Please answer....... if your good at interior design (all opinions welcome)? My fiance and I just purchased a house and we will be moving in by the summer. We are now in the process of picking out colours for hardwood flooring, carpet (upstairs), kitchen cabinets, kitchen counter, ceramic tiles in the kitchen, front foyer, 3 bathrooms and the laundry room. He thinks that the dark hardwood will make the rooms seem smaller (they are not small rooms) and wants to go with lighter colours with everything. I like dark hardwood and lighter tile with light kitchen cabinets. Does that sound like it would look good? I was also thinking of a black granite kitchen counter for contrast. yes/no?
When remodeling kitchen, how much can an addition cost? We have a standard 9X10 L-shaped kitchen. It's not small but it's not conducive to entertaining as most of our parties end up being kitchen parties. We cannot tear down any interior walls because of the design of the house and other connecting rooms. I was thinking of enlarging the square footage by adding outwards. I understand additions cost a lot, but what is the ballpark figure? I am looking to extend only one wall towards the backyard. It has 4 windows. Vinyl siding. I'm in the Southeast.
Designing/ decorating a funky, functional and RELAXED lounge room? Hi guys, I need to buy new lounges but I am considering breaking from tradition and not going with lounges at all, but giant, rectangular shaped 8 ft beanbags (website with a picture of them: http://www.sitbackandrelax.com.au/index_shop.php?action=item&itemId=7) Currently my house is a mix of Indochinese / Balinese furniture, lots of vintage knickknacks, paper lanterns etc. It's a pretty laid back place. The lounge room is small so 2 bean bags would just about fill it. I could add floor cushions, cushions to the beanbag to accentuate and update looks. I live alone (no partner to convince about the beanbags). I would love my lounge room to be a place to relax, completely informal, somewhere people would like to be. Having said that, my house is tiny and if I did need somewhere formal the only other place would be the kitchen table (hehe). Do you think this idea would work? Love to hear from anyone who has done something similar! Thanks, Heidi xxx
If you have patience please read this story that I wrote. A bit long, but I wanna know what you think of it? I know you'll love it. Please give me your opinions on this story, and if you have any suggestions, please say so.
What colour should I paint my living room and kitchen? Should I paint the baseboards, or leave them white? My kitchen and living room are connected in a long narrow rectangle. It is a small but bright and sunny space. Our couch is a light charcoal gray and we have a pumpkin orange accents. The floors are pretty neutral. My favorite colour is green, so I was thinking a pale olive green, but I don't want all the the walls the same colour. What should the other colour be? I like contemporary but comfortable design. Any thoughts?
Water heater question? I'm designing some furniture for a small kitchen. However, there is a small water heater in the kitchen and it looks ugly. I was wondering if I could cover it with wood or aluminum louver doors... is this safe? Also, do you know of any good internet sites that might have ideas for small kitchens? Thanks!
Interior Design Issue - Awkward Space - HELP!? Try to picture these dimensions, and please give me ideas...My living room and family room connect (with an archway inbetween) and the rooms are both incredibly narrow and small. The family room connects with the kitchen/breakfast area which is hardwood flooring, and the LR/DR is all carpeting. There is little wall space due to windows and a fireplace....I can't seem to do anything with these spaces - no matter how I arrange furniture, I can't get a comfortable seating area with a TV in either room without it looking strange. I'm at the point where almost everything is removed from both rooms and I'm staring at empty space. Any design ideas from professionals or people who know what they're talking about when it comes to decorating is needed - please don't send links because I've googled this topic to death! Thanks!
I need interior design advice/direction to make my living area workable. Does Tara Dennis do home visits?gmt? Lounge 6mx3.2m with central arch, adjoins kitchen 5mx3.2m which adjoins family room 7m x 4m via a central opening. The two openings form a thoroughfare through the kitchen. I want them to work bette/link together, remove clutter, with some design and colour advice and furniture positioning suggestions. Lounges faces due west, family room faces due east and the kitchen has no window except for a small opening into the family room It is dark and the only other light it gets is from the two openings. The passage to the bedrooms runs off the kitchen and the laundry backs on to it also. Do I open up the wall between the kitchen and family room, move the sink and put a window in the south wall? or do I completely relocate the kitchen to the other side of the room and maybe incorporate the laundry area in this process? I find when family visit the men sit in the lounge area watching TV, women in the family room with children running back and forth and spreading toys etc. GMT
Best color for kitchen walls, with pink tile? For a guys kitchen. No $$$? Ok, first of all I have a small kitchen and a small budget. My house is very old and the last time the kitchen was remodeled looks like some time in the 50-60s. I just bought stainless steel appliances for the kitchen, to replace the non-working olive green 70s era ones, so there is like no money left. The cabnets are painted white, which are fine for now. The counter top is white with pink flake in the design, eww! The backsplash is all bright pink tiles. The walls are yellow. Since it will be a few years before I can remodel, and this is my first home, I would like any suggestion of a masculine color to paint the wall the would maybe make it not so bad. I was thinking a chocolate brown? Any inputs? A $20 gallon of paint has got to be better than this ugly color scheme. Thanks for any help
I need to put up a baby gate in the big 4" opening between my kitchen and living room. The gate is about 3" too short. I wanted to just put 2 2X4s on each end, but hus says it won't "look good" so I need ideas. I was thinking about putting molding around the opening anyway so it is accented anyway, but I'm unsure about how to do it and what design type of molding to use. Our house is a small (1500 sq ft) cap cod. What would look good? All of our molding is painted frost white.
Can anyone design or remodel a homeowners home to accommodate aging person or compensate for any disability? My friend wantsstart a small business to paint exterior and interiors of homes, and make small changes or updates to made the homesowners home more disability or aging more comfortable/ and accessible? Such as wider doorways and lower kitchen sinks, build wheelchair ramps.(Texas)
Should I paint or refinish my kitchen cabinets? My kitchen is very small and "L" shaped. Right now I have the walls painted a sage green color, which I want to keep. My cabinets are plain with no wood designs or anything, and they're stained a very dark, walnut type of color. My floor is vinyl floor tiles in a light beige white marble kind of pattern. My appliances are bisque color. I'm wondering if I should paint my cabinets a cream color, or antique white color or if I should refinish and stain them a lighter wood color - like light oak. I'd rather restain, but I'm also wondering how long it would take to sand down to the natural wood color. Any help would be appreciated because I can't make up my mind.
Interior design ideas? Working with modern furniture in small condo!? I'm moving into a new condo. Long story short, it's owned by my boyfriend's uncle.... so he's giving me all of the furniture that's in there. It's a very small one-bedroom. I wish I had a picture, but I don't. It's got white walls, white carpet, white ceilings, and black furniture. Black leather sofa, black tv stand, black dining room chairs, black stools, black oriental-inspired dresser, and a black bedframe with a semi-circle headboard. The coffee table is a rectangular piece of glass over a really awesome panther-sculpture. The panther's shoulders and hips hold up the table. The only splash of color is the cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted a bright turquoise. The condo is much more modern than my tastes, but I'm willing to work with it. The only problem is.... I'm not completely satisfied with the way it looks just yet. I hate having so much white and black in a small space. I like the contrast, but it's too overwhelming. Another issue is my furniture I'm bringing with me is mostly earth colors like brown and beige. Any ideas how I could make this work? Suggestions for painting the wall another color? Or possibly the cabinets? I'm fine with turquoise but if there's another color that works better I'm willing to give it a try. Thanks!
can some one make a design for me? kitchen is 3 m on2.15... including also table and chairs from light wood, maybe all these cupboards .. Oven , but old one, refregirator metallic colour. Small table, old this where u wash dishes.
Do we NEED a cold air return in a small bedroom? We are remodeling our kitchen which involves tearing down the wall between the kitchen and family room. Unfortunately, the cold air return from our daughter's room upstairs goes down through that wall. Due to the design of the house, we can't see where else to put a cold air return in that room. The room is probably 10' x 10'. We don't know what to do! Any help out there! Thanks!
Painting my kitchen hot green....anyone know about interior design? I love bright colors. I want to paint my kitchen bright green. Kind of a lighter bright green...almost like the yahoo answers bars, haha! The problem is I don't know how to transition to the living room and hallway which attach to the kitchen. I don't want the entire house bright green...though I do love a bright, beachy, fun look all over the house. I need suggestions of how to make the whole house look good and bright and fun but not overwhelming. The kitchen is the biggest room in our small ranch style home. Help please!?! Pictures would really help me too~ I'm painting myself and plan on making a home depot trip today or tomorrow. Thanks for the help! Really, Luke? No green? This is the pic I was liking: http://www.lavenderlotusdesign.com/content/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/domino-green-kitchen.jpg

How do I tell my boss I am leaving? I work in the kitchen design industry. I have been in this job for about 3 years. I get phoned, out of the blue, by another kitchen company to ask if I would be interested in a job. This new job would nearly double my wages. The only thing is the job I am in just now is a small family run business with a very close nit staff. I work directly beside my bosses and have built up a great relationship with them, they have treated me like family. What is the best way to approach this? Do i just tell them that i have been offered a new job that pays more or do i tell them it is with another kitchen firm? The money is just too good to turn down. Do I have to put what they think about me out of my mind and just do it? or do I play this another way?
Living Room design... dark colors in furniture or rug? I have just gotten a new apartment and am trying to decide options for my living area. It is fairly small and open to the kitchen. I will have black and white photos and more contemporary art on my walls. I want to get a shag rug and a new couch and chairs. Is it better to bring color into the room through the rug or have a black rug and brighter tones in the furniture to make the room look as open as possible.

How can I find out what is eating up the memory in my hard drive? My work computer has an 80 gig hard drive and is practically brand new. The main program that I work on is a CAD type Kitchen and Bath design program called 20\20. Compared to AutoCAD, the files that I create are relatively small in size, in fact, my entire drawing folder archive is less than 5 gigs in size; yet, over the past couple of weeks, my memory usage has gone from 25% full to 75% full, and I can't figure out what is using up all that memory. Is there a way to trace memory usage so that I can determine what is using it all up so quickly??? Please advise!!! Thanks! There are 55 processes running... most of which I recognize. The ones taking up the biggest chunks of memory are as follows, (over 10,000 k): design.exe avgrssvc.exe iexplore.exe svchost.exe explorer.exe MsMpEng.exe SUService.exe cssauth.exe I have AVG antivirus and Microsoft Firewall running 24/7, plus I use additional antispyware programs daily to remove adware and spyware.
Can you help me find home building/decorating websites? My husband and I are buying a home that only the outside is done. On the inside the stud walls are up, but that is it. We will have to do everything from electrical to sheetrock. I have 3 small daughters (7, 4, and 2) and want their rooms to be beautiful. I need help designing and decorating the bathrooms and the kitchen. Anyone with good website addresses, please help.
Designer suggests opening kitchen to formal living room. Afraid it will look weird.? I live in a small, 1 story house with no space to build out or up. A kitchen designer suggested opening the kitchen to the living room by creating an island with a cooktop and island fan above then placing stools facing the cooktop. I'm afraid this will look odd, like I'm running a Benihana's restaurant out of my house. When people sit on our living room sofa, their view, I guess, will include a ventilation fan. The house does not lend itself to rearranging rooms. The living room is the first room you see when you come into the house. The kitchen is sqeezed in off to the left. Behind the kitchen is our dining room. I have never seen a picture of a remodel where the kitchen opens to the living room, only where the kitchen opens to the dining room. In your opinion, would going with such a design make our house look ugly? Thank you.
Senior Citizen Self-Designed Retirement Home? If you had the chance to help design a new group home for the over-50 set, with minimal medical, but still a safe place, what would you like to add to the house? Assuming we have a nice kitchen and other basics, for our age group, what would be great? Garage for you guys to do your car work in? Small dance floor for parties? How about a garden (ok, that's for me!) And a sun roof, definately eco-friendly too. um, keep it clean - we don't want the kids to see! These are so GREAT!!
Design Question - Brown Throw Rug on Off-White Berber Carpet? Hi there, I bought a v modern condo, most everything is off-white (carpet, paint) with black kitchen applicances. Found a dark brown wool rug on sale at Pier One for dirt cheap so I lugged it home. i like earth tone colors but wonder if y'all think that a solid throw rug on white carpet is too strong contrast. i only have two soft lime green bucket chairs, a subdued red japanese trunk with a gold monkey on it as a small side table, and an oversized black chair w/ottoman that serves as couch - this has very small light brown, off-white polka dots on it. they're all hand-me downs and i'm making do. i really like the shag throw rugs with speckles of colors but can't afford that now. any design ideas for around this rug on a budget? or save the budget, return it quick... thanks!
Does anyone have any ideas on how to decorate a window without using curtains? I want something unique.? I live in a 100+ year old house and have been trying to decorate and design "outside of the box" and not rely on past favorites like Pier One and Target. I really like bohemian/gypsy type motifs. I want to do something with the windows in my kitchen and bathroom. I don't want to just buy curtains and put them up. I would sew my own if I knew how. I know the type of material I want to use, but am completely clueless on how to transfer the fabric from a square of material to a window treatment of some sort. I hope someone understands my question and gives me a new idea. The fabric I am going with is sheer and shiny. The windows are all small enough to only need one panel of traditional/valance curtains. Correction: I mentioned curtains to give indication of size of my windows.
Suggestions GREATLY appreciated on what web sites you can buy quality / value window treatments? I am trying to help my mom find new window treatments for her home. Living in a small town, we are trying to find a few good web sites to buy well made curtains that do not cost an arm & leg. We have tried ebay, but it was to time consumeing for what little we found to suit her needs. One example, is that we are doing her kitchen in the red, white & chrome 50's look and then "trying" to find a way to tie in the the French Country design she wants for the rest of the house. Any ideas or suggestions are so very greatly appreciated & valued!!! Thank you!

Does anyone remember the "c" class motor home with a VW Bug front end? Back in the 70's or 80's - a motor home company designed a "c" class motor home that instead of seeing a toyota truck or Van front - you saw a VW Bug front end - I thought it was really cool - and would love to find one today that I could possibly buy and use to promote my business - if anyone knows what it was called or is there a website for those still running or for sale - let me know - I remember the inside wasnt that fancy - it was a small motor home - only maybe 12 feet long - it had a bed over the cab - a small kitchen and a small bath room and dining room - very basic - but it sure was cool to see going down the road - i remember seeing only 3 or 4 in my life time - and havnt seen one in probably 20 years - are there any left - it sorta looked like the Toyota Tioga Motor Home - with a VW front end instead of a Toyota Truck front end - was this a custom made motor home and only a few made - and oh yeah - this was in California - so maybe they were custom made since California.
Small application grease traps? A friend installed a drywell for an outdoor sink (summer kitchen). We are looking for a way to prevent contamination. I am familiar with grease traps for restaurants, but a 50 gallon tanks seems like overkill for this application. Is there a product designed for situations like this?
Feng Shui suggestions for someone living in a bach apt? It looks similiar to a hotel room, designed in a 'L' shape, abit smaller with a mini kitchen/ living rm. bathroom is hidden in the hallway for more privacy, bedding area is in the opposite direction of the kitchen area. At first, I thought Feng Shui was a plant...After some browsing online, I was starting to understand it abit better & re-arranged my place. I am wondering if I'm missing something, I know that book shelves should be away from the bedding area, Front entrance and windows should be open and not cluttered. What stopped me in my tracks, computers should not be facing the window, I have it near because of the heat and need air flow near the open windows..Although I have to dust my computer n' desk, which ain't difficult to do.. Suggestions please!!! Thx (GRINS) hmm interesting cs313..One part I forgot to mention, I used to be able to sleep with small shelves above me, 4 yrs ago I couldn't sleep that way anymore, ended up sleeping the opposite way..Any ideas?? By the way, bedding is tucked out of view from the hallway to the door.
Can I used vegetable oil? I need 3000 btus to heat my apartment? I have a small apartment in Japan. The main room measures about 12 ft by 12 ft and a 15 ft ceiling. I am using a 3000 btu space heater (900 watt) to keep it at 70 fahrenheit. But its costing too much. I have a source of free vegetable oil. I have a kitchen vent and a stainless steel surface. What burner design would allow me to burn vegetable oil to make 3000 btus and heat the apartment? I have fabrication skills. I would need just a small flame to make 3000 btus
Anyone as disgusted as I am with Direct Buy? interested in getting together to pursue a refund ? NYC location I am a small Brooklyn landlord, educated at Pratt Institute in Interior Design and construction...thought Direct Buy would be a good thing for my 7 rental units. My education did not help me recognize their misrepresentation. Since joining (late 2006)after spending hours upon hours in their showroom I've already renovated 2 kitchen and baths without their "savings". The (2) orders I made with them were bad experiences. I see so many other dissatisfied people's blogs....this week was the last straw- priced 3 appliances and the cost was going to be MORE at Direct Buy. The NYC owner then claimed he had a 15% price guaruntee- that the salesperson would work it out for me...well, guess what- more false promises. I ended up buying elsewhere again. This is what I paid $4500 for? Come on- join me, let's give it a shot!!! There must be something we can do!!! I can be quite creative, and have enough time--just need more people with me!
