Where is the best place to mount kitchen cabinet hardware on a horizontal drawer? I'm looking to add kitchen cabinet hardware/handles to horizontal drawers and I've seen them placed in various positions. I've seen them most frequently dead center and above center (for lower drawers). I'm guessing dead center is the way to go but I'm curious if anyone else has a different take. Thanks!

which is the best technique for painting kitchen cabinet hardware? I can't afford to buy new one so I'm considering painting them. They appear to be bronze and I want to make them copper. Do I need a primer? Special paint?
Does the cabinet hardware in the kitchen have to be the same finish as the fixures throught the house? We are redoing virtually everything. The cabinets themselves are staying. They are pretty dark. The new appliances will be black. I am worried getting silvery colored cabinet hardware (whether it's nickel or chrome, brushed or satin...) will stand out in a bad way. But throughout the house, everything else (light fixtures and such) will have a satin nickel finish. Do the cabinet fixture have to be the silvery color or can I go with something that fits better with the dark cabinets and black appliances?

I need opinions on decorating my kitchen. What is the best color or metal for my cabinet hardware? I have white cabinets and black counter tops. The floors are dark hardwood and the walls are painted a medium shade of sage green with white trim. All appliances are white so are my table and china hutch. What is the best color or metal for my cabinet hardware?
What color cabinet hardware would look good with these cabinet colors? We are painting our upper kitchen cabinets a cream color and our lower cabinets black. All of our hardware on doors and drawers are 3" pulls. We got a great deal on flat black hinges, so we bought enough for the whole kitchen. With the hinges unifying the cabinets, could we get away with using cream colored pulls on the black cabinets and black pulls on the cream colored cabinets? If you think we should use the same color hardware on both sets of cabinets, what color could we use that goes with cream and black paint and black hinges? Thanks for your help! I should have said too that we are going for a traditional look rather than a contemporary one. How would aged bronze pulls look with these colors?

What is the rule about cabinet hardware on drawers vs. doors? I have a really nice custom built hardwood cabinets in my kitchen and want to add hardware to them. I am not sure what to use though. Is there as standard as far as what to use on the drawers and what to use on the cabinet doors? Do I use knobs on both? Do I use knobs on the doors and pulls (handles) on the drawers? or Do I use knobs on the drawers and handles on the doors? I am so confused.
Kitchen Cabinets:Painting Kitchen Cabinets hardware? I have 30 year old kitchen cabinets in very good condition that I plan on painting. I would like to reuse the hardware and I thought about painting them rather than replacing them. How can I prepare the hardware for spray painting. My thoughts on this would be to spray with a high gloss enamel or flat enamel followed by clear coat. Do you know if painting hinges/pulls holds up well with use?

Any advice on where to buy hardware for our kitchen cabinets? I looked at Home Depot but didn't find anything. I need to check Lowes. Are there stores that specialize in hardware with better options?
Will wood putty work in the holes of my cabinets where the old hardware was? I want to redo knobs in kitchen.? I want to redo the hardware on my kitchen cabinets. Currently, I have what I call the "old pine door" cabinet hardware. Very dated. I feel I can update the kitchen simply buy putting in new counter-tops and cabinet hardware. The appliances and cabinets are still in good shape. I am concerned that I will have issues with finding pulls that will match up with the holes already. Plus, my hinges are on the outside and I would really like to have them on the inside. This will leave holes if I do it. My cabinets are a light pine color. I was wondering if I could just put a wood putty in the holes if needed or if that would look really bad.
Can you paint LAMINATE Kitchen Cabinets?? Can you add hardware too? I want to paint our Laminate cabinets in our new house and possibly add hardware but I'm afraid the laminate might crack from the screws and the paint wont be as durable on suck a slick laminate surface. Single hole cabinet hardware to double-hole question? We are changing out single-hole pulls on our kitchen cabinets to handles that are 2-hole installation. On the cabinet doors, can we use the existing hole as the bottom hole of our handle or do we need to fill, re-measure and drill both holes?
loose kitchen hardware? I recently had new knobs and pulls installed on my kitchen cabinets. It appears that the holes drilled for 4 of the knobs were made too big, and the knobs are loose (you can jiggle them up and down). Any suggestions for how to best deal with this?
Paint suggestions to paint kitchen cabinets white? Hi, I am planning on painting my kitchen cabinets white, but am unsure of what color white I should use. I hope to paint the walls a neutral off-white color also, but with sections under my chair-rail in the adjacent dining area and the soffet over my cabinets in sage. The trim will be bright white and I hope to eventually install an oak floor, tropical brown granite countertops, and I will be updating the cabinet hardware with satin nickel. The appliances will be a combo of black and stainless. Appreciate any cabinet and neutral wall color suggestions that work with this. Thanks! Thanks for the suggestions! I have thought about using Behr's Swiss Coffee on the cabinets for a color, but then I am not sure what to use on parts of the walls that will not be sage. For the person that asked about the curtains etc.. in the room, I am waiting to pick out all the accents and accessories until I have completed the bones of the room. Also, the cabinets are currently an off white or beige. In fact, the whole room is a beige, It's not a nice beige- more like a dirty cream color (cabinets, walls, trim, and ceilings). I think the cabinets are original (1956), but overall they are in good shape. I would love to buy new cabinets too (in a stained spice color), but expense wise, I'm thinking the re-finishing white is the way to go. I've seen some beautiful kitchen with the wite cabinets, wood floors, and granite counters.
Where can I find 3 1/2" cabinet hardware (pulls)? I'm updating my kitchen and replacing my cabinet hardware in the process. I can find plenty of 3" and 4" pulls, but hardly any 3 1/2" pulls. I have found some for $10-$12 each, but since I need 46 of them, I need to find them at about half that price (or less). I'd really like a polished nickel finish, but at this point I'm open to anything.
Where do I put the hardware on a lazy susan cabinet? I am planning to add knobs or handles to all my kitchen cabinets and I have two lazy susan cabinets. Do I put the pulls on the left, right, or on both sides? Thanks-
I have 34 kitchen cabinet knobs made of brass which tarnish. Can I paint them? My kitchen needs a makeover, and the hardware looks awful dark. It takes a lot of elbow grease to lighten the brass knobs, so thought maybe metal paint would work better?
Spray painting cabinet handles and hinges...? Our existing kitchen cabinet hardware is dark-worn-brass which no longer goes with the other updates we've made. We like the look (style/shape) of them, but would like to re-color them to a stainless steel color. We've cleaned them up and attempted several different spray paint colors that offer a metalic grey, but haven't quite reached the color that we want. Mostly they are turning out too bright, or too metalic. Or both. Has anyone tried to achieve a stainless steel color this way. Any tips? Know of any suppliers of specialty spray paints beyond the usual Home Depot / Lowe's selection?
Does IKEA market their kitchen cabinets under different names? I've been shopping around for an apt in New York. I noticed that many of the new developments use cabinets that look just like IKEA cabinets. Same look, same construction, same hardware. They just use nicer fronts and countertops. But the name of the manufacturer is different on the little name plates inside. I know this because I installed a full IKEA kitchen recently. Are these cabinets really IKEA cabinets with the brand name changed? I would love to get to the bottom of this.
I have $30,000 I plan to spend on updating my home. Will it be enough? Will $30,000 be enough to update my 1,650 square foot home with the following: Porcelain tiles in the bath, dining, entry way and kitchen New bathtubs, sliding doors and travertine tile design New mirrors New faucets Prefabricated granite counter tops for bathrooms Medicine cabines All new doors Tankless water heater Minimal drywall repair Closet mirror door Granite kitchen counter New kitchen cabinets New hardware Remove wall and add support beam New sink Backsplash New recessed lighting. I am only paying for labor on the granite countertops and the water heater. I can do all the rest with the help of my wife. I already painting, added new appliances, windows and a patio. What do you think?
Cabinet Hardware refinish? Ok I have older cabitnets and drawers in the kitchen and have 27 handles in total. They are old and dingy. But, new ones cost at least $2 a piece and Im not willing to spend that right now. I bought some siliver spray paint that should make them look like they are stainless steel if done right. Have you ever done that before?
Best way to clean 12 year old dirty, greasy builder grade kitchen cabinets? I have to clean 12 year old, builder grade kitchen cabinets that are dirty and greasy. The cabinets are in good condition other than that. The hardware is fine. They just need a through cleaning! What cleaning products should I use? I am not trying to go overboard with painting or refinishing.
I would like to install moulding to my kitchen cabinets( natural maple shade). How do I go about doing this? Never done this before (1st time homeowner ) and I don't know where to begin. Do I just buy standard crown moulding and then stain to the correct shade or do I ask the hardware store to match the color and then ship some to me?
Kitchen CABINET problem? I bought all new hardware (knobs and pulls) for my kitchen cabinets. After taking the old hardware off, I noticed that it has left marks (a bit of an indentation and a slightly lighter color of wood where the hardware covered). Is there anything I can do rather than sanding and re-staining all of my cabinets? Many thanks! I'm pretty sure they're oak cabinets. Thanks for all of the great suggestions!!
New kitchen, beautiful but where do I put that towel to dry hands after cooking? I used to hang those button to cabinet hardware towels, and use them. Think that will take away from "new" kitchen. What type of towels do other people use to wipe hands and where to put it?
Final finish on kitchen cabinets? I am redoing my kitchen cabinets... So far... I took all of them down, removed all hardware. Sanded and primed. 2 Coats of Semi-gloss paint Glazed - Antique look My question - is there a sealer/lacquer/poly that I need to apply to them? Does this by any chance come in a spray/aeresol form? Any help is appreciated
I am redoing my kitchen with a mexican theme? I am using handpainted tiles. Any ideas for cabinet hardware? HAS TO BE INEXPENSIVE. Thanks!
Can kitchen hardware be antique brass if the refrigerator and viking stove are stainless steel? I also plan to do lighting and kitchen faucets in an antique brass finish. The cabinets are inset cabinets with the antique brass hinges showing as well.
Think I had a blind or possibly drunk carpenter install the cabinet hardware in my home. Looking for a way--? The cabinet hardware in our kitchen is all Horribly installed. It almost appears that whoever installed it tried to eyeball everything but terribly so. I took a tape measure and a few drawer pulls are almost 3/4 of an inch lower than the one next to it. It was like this when we bought the house a few years ago but now I need to do something about it because it is driving me crazy. Cabinets are oak...hardware is a brushed nickle. In my mind a perfect solution would be some decorative brushed nickle washers under each leg of the pulls. Maybe and inch in diameter. Searched the web but came up empty. I`m kind of at my wits end. Anyone out there know where I could find such a beast or even better! Anyone have a better idea?!?
How to mute the sound of my kitchen cabinets closing? I live with elderly people who are bothered by the simplest sounds, such as kitchen cabinets closing. I live a very busy fast-paced life that would benefit from just swinging the door closed instead of carefully placing it every time. The clear rubber bumpers from the hardware store do little to mute the sound. Are there any better options? Do the felt pads work better than the rubber ones? I bought the rubber ones because they looked like they'd work better
Help me choose hardware for new kitchen? Small galley kitchen with Bisque maple cabinets in the shaker contemporary style with bisque appliances. Stainless steel sink, chrome faucet. Light ivory, cream granite (Bianco Romano) with garnet flecks. Tone on tone look. I like oil rubbed bronze for hardware but think chrome or satin nickel would be more modern and tie in the sink/faucet. Also since kitchen is small I was wondering if I could mix handles and knobs for visual interest since color scheme is so neutral. Or would that look too "busy"? Any input would be great. I haven't picked paint or back splash. Overwhelmed!
What color scheme should I use to decorate my kitchen.? I just repainted my kitchen cabinets pure white. I put all new hardware on them that is bright silver. I want to get a new countertop, floor, sink, backsplash and repaint the walls. What color scheme do you think would go best with white cabinets and silver hardware? I was thinking maybe tones of gray for the floor and countertop, but I completely undecided. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Will black hardware look good with a dark stain on my cabinets in the kitchen? I have tiled my counter tops with a neutral shade of tile. I have painted the walls the lighter color in the tile. I have all black appliances and I wanted to put the black hardware to bring everything together. The tile on the floor will have the ligher color in the countertop tile, plus a shade darker, and a splash of a brick red color in it. Thanks for all of your help
Cabinet Hardware? I took all the handles off of my kitchen cabinets to paint them. Some time in the past 2 weeks I think my kids got a hold of two of the handles and now I cannot find them anywhere. I LOVE these handles! I found out who the cabinet manufacturer was and I believe they went out of business. I do have all the #'s off the back bout I think those will only help if I find the manufacturer of the handles? Does anyone know of any good websites with a wide variaty to find comparable handles? I think as long as I can find something close I can make them work. So what are the chances, I was looking at the 41 pages of handles on E-bay and I found a set of the exact same ones! Hopefully nobody else beds on them. How strange though!! Thank you all for all the help though!
On Kitchen Cabinets, is it modern to leave the frames and just get lighter colored doors? I plan on removing this ugly wall paper, get lighter colored doors on the cabinets and hardware, try to get a built in table, recessed lights and under cabinet lights, different counter tops, my floor is tiled somewhere between tan and white, I have dark cabients (oak, they are solid). I have two window next to each other, with a shorter counter height and 3 cabinets below it, thinking of getting something done there too, like a big or 2 end cabinets to store some appliances and built on table, I plan either soft paint or something like green, red, or blueish or maybe yellow for the walls, and a white ceiling celing.
I painted my kitchen cabinets black with chrome hardware to accent. What color should I paint the walls? I painted my kitchen cabinets black with chrome hardware to accent. What color should I paint the walls? My back splash is checkered black and white tiles, and my floor is a grey metallic big tiles. My counter tops are granite with grey, black, and white in it. All my appliances are chrome. What is a great color for the walls surrounding the open kitchen. We also have plenty of windows in the kitchen for lighting as well. Right now I have a light yellow color but would like to go with something different. Any suggestion's or pictures of other kitchens that might resemble the look I am trying to accomplish would be a great help.
Melamine vs latex for kitchen cabinets? I am refinishing my kitchen cabinets which are like a pressboard(very old). I have sanded then down, and I am using BIN primer. Home Hardware says I can use a kitchen and bath latex gloss nowadays, and melamine oil is no longer the only option. Anyone have any opinions? he says melamine has been around for so long, that people just automatically use it, but there are good latex out there now. Thanks!
KITCHEN CABINET REFACING:How to updated Kitchen Cabinets Refacing? Hi!! My next project is to update the kitchen cabinets. I plan to remove the trim strips, strip the carcases and restain and varnish the face frames. I will construct my own new doors and drawer fronts (perhaps the whole drawer). New hardware, different style doors (more of a craftsman style) and new color should look pretty good. It is the sides of the cabinets that concern me. I don't think they are even oak. I think the cabinet maker used fir plywood and an oak stain. In any case, they are pretty scroungy looking. They are also not perfectly flat. I am somewhat distrustful of the thin veneers on the market. I can resaw my own veneer and have an 18" Rikon bandsaw for just that purpose. If I were to resaw a bunch of quartersawn oak into 8" wide and 3/32" thick strips, how would I stick them to the sides of the cabinets with any expectation of them staying put. Also, with wide strips of wood over plywood, what do I do about wood movement. Will my thick veneer buckle? Finally, how do I smooth out the surface of the cabinet to create a flat gluing surface? So, 4 questions: 1. Should I be so intimidated by the stick on veneers on the market? 2. How would I attach 3/32" veneer to the sides of cabinets without uninstalling them. 3. What about wood movement in thick veneer? 4. How do I create a flat gluing surface. many thanks, STEPHEN P.S. I taught Industrial Arts for 8 years but never certified in woodworking. I was a plastics and metals kind of guy. I did get used to having those wonderful shops around for my own projects and have acquired some tools over the years.
Installing Our Own Kitchen Cabinets (?) Please? We're thinking about buying the oak stained cabinets from Lowe's. I've just one question though, that is, I'd like to have a cabinet with 2 large pull out pot and pan drawers. This is a cabinet that would probably be custom made from Lowe's but we can't afford to have one built. We need to use stock cabinets. Is there a way and hardware that we could use on one of the base cabinets from Lowe's and design this feature ourselves? Thanks and I hope somebody has already did this for their kitchen.
What color to do kitchen cabinets? My kitchen is a grayish green color by sherwin williams called "Hardware". I want to update my cabinets by painting them, but Im not sure what color to get. My countertops and floor are a neutral tan color.... suggestions?
Is there metal in the manufacturing of cabinets? I went to add hardware (knobs) to my kitchen cabinets. As I was drilling I hit metal. Do Cabinet makers use metal for the manufacturing process? How do I know where the metal is so I can drill around it?
Question for a kitchen cabinet maker or installer? Have SELF CLOSING hinges on my new kitchen cabinets and drawers with no way of opening them. I don't want pulls or catches - want the contemporary look with no hardware showing. I need some really long magnetic springs that when I push them in they will pop out enough for me to get my fingers behind the face of the cabinets. Is there something out there? (I don't want to use a router and Restoration Hardware doesn't have them.) I still need to be able to close the drawers so that the faces are flush with the cabinets or drawers. Bumper s will keep them permanenently open. Thanks.
Looking for the people interested in modular kitchen/accessories business? modular kitchen accessoreis, baskets, cabinet, shutter, chimeny, hob, hardware etc.
Any suggestions on color to paint kitchen with tans and browns? We are remodeling and bought marble brownish countertops and similar colored vinyl floor tile. Me and husband both disagree on the best color to paint the entire kitchen which would include the cabinet doors. Our trim will be white. We are going to use silver hardware for the cabinets. I say some shade of green, and he thinks some shade of blue.
Moving into a resale house and want to remodel kitchen? I will have maple cabinets and floors to start with, the rest needs to be gutted. I was thinking stainless appliances but really want to do an antique rubbed bronze with the light fixtures and cabinet hardware. What kind of sink/faucet and color granite would compliment? Thank you!
Should I put in an Ikea kitchen? Ikea kitchens are inexpensive and pretty. But I'm worried about the cabinets falling apart quickly. One site I read said to use Ikea cabinet frames but buy hardware and doors from a local cabinetmaker. Anybody living with an Ikea or Ikea-hybrid kitchen? How do you like it?
Kitchen Cabinets? Anyone have any creative or unusual ideas for kitchen cabinets? I will be replacing the cabinets in my kitchen soon (very small, btw), and I do not want traditionally built cabinets. I will be building them myself, and I am looking for unique and creative materials to build them out of. I just want something different. I don't mean how they are painted, what kind of trim or hardware, the style or type of doors, etc. I am talking about building materials. I particularly like the old style metal cabinets, but they are hard to come by (at least at a reasonable price). One idea was to refinish old school lockers, but I am still looking for other ideas. Thanks to anyone who can help.
I like the new oil-rubbed bronze faucets. Would it look ok to use them on a stainless steel kitchen sink? The kitchen will have stainless steel appliances and mahogany cabinets with the oil-rubbed bronze hardware.
need help with colors in my kitchen? Am wondering what type kitchen faucet would look the best in my kitchen. I have french quarter tile on the floors, pale green(Soft Fern/Benjamin Moore) walls, slightly offwhite (Dove White/Benjamin Moore) cabinets, and beige/taupe granite countertops. My home is traditional/casual cottage. I love oil-rubbed bronze and would love to change the hardware on cabinets as well. My sink is stainless steel, but could change it. We have had it a while.Help!!!!
What color should I paint the trim in my kitchen, black maybe? This is for the kitchen...We are going to paint the walls a rich tan called "cashmere". The cabinets are being stained a deep red cherry color and the floors are bamboo that have the same color as the cabinets as well as dark striations in it. We are looking at doing a corian counter top with a beige theme. All the appliances are black. The kitchen is large and open and the flooring is going into the adjacent room that will be painted a chocolate color, this is a game room/family room and it is also very large. So the question is, what do you think about painting the trim in the kitchen BLACK? we really want some input on this. the rest of the house has cashmere paint and WHITE trim. The family room will be chocolate with white trim. we have been debating every aspect of this kitchen for months and it is getting tiresome. We have brushed nickle hardware if that means anything to you and lots of windows.
How do I create sliding doors? For cabinets and such? I am thinking on building kitchen cabinets similar to this out of three quarter inch plywood with wood face frames(not sure what kind of wood yet) and am trying to figure out how to do the sliding doors (see photo) http://www.greenteadesign.com/reproductions/kitchen-islands/5-drawer-kitchen-island.html without hardware what I was considering was taking unfinished wood flooring in the wood I go with that is a tongue and groove style and using a male end for top and bottom of cabinet door and a female for matching top and bottom on cabinet would put two female tracks on one in front of the other so when slid all the doors could slide to one side but take up half the space, I would use oil as a finish, and make the male counterpart a little bit smaller with sand paper so that it would slide well and also not wiggle too much though so does this sound like a sound plan? my kitchen will have lots of ventilation so I dont think the wood will warp at all or swell too much in summer
How to clean old unfinished knotty pine cabinets? I have unfinished knotty pine kitchen cabinets [solid wood] that I don't want to alter because they were handmade by my father. They're very well made but the style is rustic with wrought iron hardware. I don't think that they've been deep cleaned since they were installed in 1950, and dust and kitchen grease have darkened them in places, while normal wear and some surface scratches have lightened some areas. If I want to give them a facelift, is there a cleaning product that won't darken them? How would you restore them to a more uniform appearance? And if your recommendation is to sand them, please tell me what tools, what kind of sandpaper [grit #, etc.] I would need to do the job. Thanks so much!
