If you have had kitchen cabinet refacing done, does it really cost less? We just bought a new home, and the cabinets look dirty and dated. The structure is sound and drawers move beautifully. I want to update the look by either 1) buying new cabinets from Ikea (which was rated #4 by Consumer Reports)--any ideas about that? 2) Refacing the cabinets Which one will cost less? I do plan on buying special cabinets (1 or 2) to add to the existing ones to maximize storage. Please help because I'm a first-time homeowner, and don't have a clue about this. I've spent 4 weeks just researching, and now my mimd is all muddled.
Kitchen cabinet refacing versus refinishing? I have 24 cabinet doors. The existing cabinetry is knotty pine wood. I was given a quote of $1500 to refinish it by painting it white. How much more should refacing be? I am thinking of using thermofoil so it looks like wood. Also, can my barrel hinge be changed over to concealed hinges?

Kitchen Cabinet refacing. . .? My cabinets are 12 years old and need refacing. They are your average cabinets. How much does this cost around? If have to replace about 10 cabinet doors of varying sizes. Also, is it easy to find the same doors as the ones I have and if so where is the best place to look or get started looking? Kitchen cabinet refacing/renovation? I would love to get new cabinets but money is tight. The cabinet insides are made of "presswood" and they are flaking off. What can I do about this. Is there some sort of veneer etc I could cut and glue on the insides. Also the outside are dark wood. would you paint them or sand and re- stain. If so what kind of paint do I use.

Refacing Kitchen Cabinets? I am thinking of selling my house in a year or two and would like to refacte our cabinet doors and the cabinets, because they look awful now. I've heard that there's a product, that is like a film cover to go over the cabinets. It woudl be white and would stick to the existing cabinet. Has anyone ever heard of this type of product? where would i get it? Also, is there something like this to cover the cabinet doors as well? also, how much is a project like this going to cost?
Are there any disadvantages to refacing kitchen cabinets? I know it doesn't improve the design of the cabinets but I am wondering about the material that is being used
KITCHEN CABINETS:Refacing Kitchen Cabinets? I am considering refacing my kitchen cabinets but am finding it rather expensive. My question to you is can I sand off the existing laminate and restain the existing cabinets or is this not a good idea. the back of the cabinets are laminate as well however under the laminate is particle board. help
Has anyone ever tried dressing up plain kitchen cabinet doors with some wood molding? My cabinet doors are larger than standard size (home built in '75) and they are simple and flat. The cost of new doors or refacing is out of the question and I was considering the possiblity of using some wood trim to dress up the edges of the cabinet doors. So far I've found nothing on the internet to suggest that this has been done and I was wondering if anyone else had tried this technique and what they thought?
What kitchen cabinet finish is best for a small kitchen? I have a moderately small kitchen and i want to reface the cabinets. I was thinking white would look best so it would make the kitchen look bigger, but i really want to do a cherry/oak finish. Installing horizontal windows above kitchen cabinets? We're in the intial process of designing/updating our kitchen. In addition to new granite countertops, natural stone tile backsplashes and refacing cabinets, we're considering options to bring in more natural light. Vaulting the ceiling and installing skylights is one possible alternative, but a less expensive option may be installing horizontal windows above the existing kitchen cabinets. While we've seen this done in new homes to good effect, its been difficult to find examples of it done as a remodel option. Does anyone have experience with this or know if its a feasible option? For reference, there is 26" of vertical space between the top of the cabinet molding and the kitchen ceiling.

Is there a way I can lower my property taxes? I had a appraisal done last March, and the house is about 40,000 less than what the city rates it as. Although part of the reason, is because the house was never updated, needs kitchen tile, refaced cabinets, bathrooms remodeled, new carpet, paint, etc. Also could I get a tax refund for the past 1.5 years? Also If I do get an adjustment, will it come back to haunt me when i sell the property? Like a buyer trying to claim the worth at what the city now rates it as.
How much roughly would it cost to remodel a kitchen and bathroom with these dimensions? Kitchen is about 10X15, has one wall of cabinets that might just need refacing about 10 feet long with sink, needs new countertop, and linoleum. The bathroom needs the cabinet and countertop replaced about 6 feet long, new toilet, shower, and linoleum. What is a cool new color for painting a kitchen? I am considering of redoing my kitchen, the cabinets will be refaced with new handles, surface redone, the problem I have is that there is this ugly wall paper with green stripes on it and a row of apples on the top broder, and then there is the counter tops that old yellow style that has been outdated years ago.
Is refacing kitchen cabinets more cost effective than just replacing everything??? Hello, Just bought a 2 family house that appears to have been owned by an eccentric yet crafty man. The unit I am moving into has an "interesting" kitchen with 3 different types of cabinets (Floor cabinets/wall cabinets/island) in white and a dark and light wood finish. Its atrocious. I went to Home Depot last night and after 30 minutes got nothing but a phone number to call since refacing is a new service for them. All I wanted to know is how much does refacing really save? If its only like 20% cheaper then I'd rather replace everything. If its half as much or something that much better then I'd rather just reface. My parents resurfaced their cabinets in 1996 and they are still going strong so I have no problem with resurfacing. The kitchen is not large.... I believe its less than 12 cabinets combined.. Any advice you have is super.

Refacing kitchen cabinets - is it worth it? Our kitchen was brand new when we moved into our house. Unfortunately, it's ugly. The cabinets were unfinished wood that was painted - and they're two different colors top and bottom. My husband and I have gone back and forth a million times on what to do about it - whether to refinish them ourselves, replace them entirely, or have them refaced. Having them refaced seems like the most cost and time effective solution, since there's nothing wrong with the structure of the cabinets themselves. Will refacing work on a painted surface? Is it worth it to do this, or would we be better off just saving up for brand new cabinets? Thanks.

How much does it cost to reface cabinets? I have a small kitchen with cabinets from the mid 80's they are a dark oak color and you can feel the grain in them, the were partial painted with killz. I have 13 doors 4 of them small, 6 drawers and 2 fake drawers with no handles and do not open. i also have 1 lazy susan on the corner that rotates open, doesn't side. I have heard there is a great range in pricing and it is easy to get ripped off and pay way too much. I also need to cut corners and save money, like buy my own pulls, hinges, and doors if I could even match up the color. I hear people can do it themselves, and apply the facing but this might be too hard. Is the a website that can explain this process as well?
What is the least inexpensive way to make my kitchen cabinets look better? I bought a house and the cabinets are unattractive. I saw at Lowes about "refacing"??? I also saw a look called the "casual kitchen" where there are no doors and the cabinets are painted. What do you think would be best?

Can plastic(?) coated particle board kitchen cabinets be painted? My kitchen cabinets are 10 yrs old, made by Canac and have some kind of plastic coating over particle board. Is it possible to remove this coating and paint the doors? Can the plastic be painted over directly? The plastic coating has several spots that cracked or were ripped from the particle board and I am wondering how to improve them without buying all new doors (there are 14 drawers and 21 cabinets so refacing would be very pricey) Thank you for any assistance you can provide. My kitchen cabinets need to be repainted. I have app. 18 doors and app. 7 drawers. What can I expect to pay? I have checked out refacing but you have to install yourself plus paint the base or apply a matching veneer.
How can I strip my painted kitchen cabinets? Bathroom and Kitchen remodeling? I have a kitchen that is 13' by 7', and a bathroom that is 5' by 7'. For the bathroom, I am looking to reglaze the tub, retile the walls and floors, new sink, toilet, and new cabinet. For the kitchen, I'm thinking of refacing the cabinets, getting rid of some brick on the walls (?), and retile the floors. The flooring in both rooms will probably be laminate. Kitchen refacing quote- am I paying too much? I just had the Home Depot representative come to my house and give me a price for refacing my kitchen cabinets (NO counter top or sink replacement included). After applying a "promotion" for 10% off and another one for $500 off, he came up with a total of $6,000. This price does include toe kicks & bottoms of the cabinets. However, my kitchen is really tiny-- 4 base cabinets, 4 wall cabinets, 2 drawers and a pantry and this sounds like an awful lot to pay for just refacing them. The guy had me sign a contract to proceed with the installation however i have 3 days to cancel my order. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF I AM PAYING TOO MUCH. Thank you all in advance!

Can anyone tell me how (if it is even possible) to reface wooden kitchen cabinets myself using metal? I am looking for references for this as a do it yourself project. Would prefer to use stainless steel or maybe even copper. Not sure exactly where to purchase the metal and the best way to cut it to size.

Should i have exposed hinges on my kitchen cabinet? I am thinking about refinishing my kitchen cabinets and to have it painted white. It doesn't seem like I can get concealed hinges . Should I not worry about exterior hinges as being passe and buy white hinges to blend with the cabinet color or should I spend twice the amount and reface only to get the concealed hinges. Kitchen cabinet recommendations? I am going to remodel my kitchen, including replacing my cabinets. I don't need anything fancy, but do want to be able to access the wasted space in the corners where I can't even reach now, with my current cabinets. That's why I'm not considering refacing. Is refacing cabinets too hard to do yourself? We have kitchen cabinets that are in great shape. However they have really ugly knobs on them with these sort of star shaped medallion things behing them. We planned on just replacing them but underneath the medallion part is discolored and scratched. We're considering painting them or maybe refinishing but both wouldn't be very fun! I've read a bit about DIY cabinet refacing. Has anybody done this or know anything about it? Do you think it's easier or harder than painting or refinishing? Also is it really costly? The good news..our cabinet doors are plain flat.

Selling house, need to know the average cost that a contractor will charge to tear out and reinstall kitchen? cabinets, counters and sinks/fixtures. We have currently 11 cainets. We will reinstall 11- 18 depending on if we buy long units or shorter. Does contractor charge by amount of cabinets or hourly or what. got me a quote to reface my kitchen cabinets for 11k, is this a good deal? Home Depot stopped by and gave me a quote in replacing my cabinate doors and drawers, hardware and all. The material to be used is laminate, its a pretty heavy material and the laminate is like what they use on laminate countertops. My kitchen has a peninsula style. One thing that got me sold is that they will extend my cabinets 6 inches more all the way up to the ceiling. This quote for cabinets only, no countertops, etc. Is this a pretty good number or a rip off? I got 2 more days before I can cancel this project. Help!
How hard is it to reface cabinets? Should I try this on my own or hire someone? Ive sided my own house, and remodeled everything in the bathroom but the replacement of the tub, too much work!! But as for my kitchen cabinets, is this something that can be done alone? Or should I just replace them, which is the better idea? How do I pull off a grape theme(green & purple) in my purple kitchen? My husband and I recently bought our first home. Need help choosing paint colors for kitchen? We are moving and the wood kitchen cabinets in the new home are outdated. We can't afford to buy new cabinets or even reface, so painting will have to do for now. Here's my dilema: our appliances are almond (bisque I guess). We love white trim and want to purchase white six panel doors throughout the main level and paint the trim white.
