How do you remove rust from chromed kitchen cabinet hinges? We have older kitchen cabinets in our rental home and the hinges are rusty in places. Is there anyway to get the rust off to try and salvage them for a few months until we can afford to buy new ones? We tried steel wool -but it just knocked off the high spots. I'm going to try Brasso this afternoon. Any other suggestions?
Do new kitchen cabinet hinges often use the same hole pattern as the old ones? Possible replacing kitchen cabinet hinges and I was wondering if the hole patterns are standardized or would I have to essentially drill new holes for the hinges and center and level the doors?
Looking plastic plugs for kitchen cabinet hinges used with Mills Pride cabinetry available at Home Depot? These plastic plugs are used when a cabinet door is used for either right or left side of the cabinet but the door has an arch profile so it can not be flipped. Mills Pride use to supply them but now use a tape to cover the hole. My customer wants the plastic covers with no exceptions. If anyone knows of these please let me know or if you have a suggestion as to where I might look I would appreciate it.
Should i have exposed hinges on my kitchen cabinet? I am thinking about refinishing my kitchen cabinets and to have it painted white. It doesn't seem like I can get concealed hinges . Should I not worry about exterior hinges as being passe and buy white hinges to blend with the cabinet color or should I spend twice the amount and reface only to get the concealed hinges. I have just fitted new cabinet hinges to some of my kitchen units,i brought the hinges from wickes ,they only had one type for a 90 degree opening but now there fitted the hinge side of the door stands proud of the carcass by about 7mm what can I do to get the doors to fit flush
Kitchen cabinet hinge plugs? I want to change the side some doors are fitted on my early 1990s kitchen. The hinges easily unclip from the mounting brackets but the brackets are screwed into plastic plugs that sit in 10mm holes. The holes on the other side have no plugs. The plugs can't be levered out without damaging them but I've been unable to find replacements. Does anyone know what they're called, and/or where to find some? Thanks
what is the tiny cushion for that comes in the kitchen cabinet hinge bag from home depot? small circirclar spongy cushion is in with each non self-closing hinge. What is it for? thank you all, but there is only one per hinge and there is a magnetic closer for each door, so it is not to cushion banging of door. Any other ideas??
Can I use fully concealed hinges with lipped kitchen cabinets? I am refinishing my kitchen cabinets, and I want to install new concealed hinges. I can't seem to find fully concealed hinges for cabinets with a lip or rabbit, like the ones I have. I have seen the partially concealed hinges, but I want a fully concealed version. I have frame type cabinets.
Has anyone spray painted cabinet door hinges? I'm painting my kitchen cabinets and want to spray paint my hinges to avoid the cost of buying new ones. I did my fans and they look great, but they don't get fooled with. I'm doing it today, so any advice would be great.

can you identify this logo from a kitchen cabinet hinge? I had a cabinet hinge break, and it is a unique kind of hinge so I am having trouble finding a replacement. The hinges were in place when I bought my house a couple of years ago and I don't know what company makes it. The only identifying characteristic is a logo that looks like pac-man. It is a pac-man looking figure with two lines across where pac-man's eyes should be. (imagine pac-man wearing a blindfold). I wish I could upload a scan of it. If someone can tell me the company that has this logo, I could probably find the replacement.
External hinges(barrel type) for kitchen cabinets? I would like to refinish my kitchen cabinets by painting it white. However, the custom made knotty pine wood cabinets won't be able to take concealed hinges. Do you think with contemporary knobs and barrel hinges, it would be good or is it passe?
Where can you purchase kitchen cabinet hardware at discount? Does anyone know where to buy cabinet pulls, knobs and hinges at a reduced cost on the net? I have not found any place including Ebay where they are less than the retail stores after factoring in shipping. I am looking for Liberty brand products in particular.
Kitchen cabinets do not close completely. Closing leaves a 1" gap. Do not have euro style hinges? Cabinets are about 10 years old. Originally they closed fine, but now about half of the doors do not close completely. Not sure what the hinges are called, but very simple 2 screws on door, 2 screws on cabinet.
What color cabinet hardware would look good with these cabinet colors? We are painting our upper kitchen cabinets a cream color and our lower cabinets black. All of our hardware on doors and drawers are 3" pulls. We got a great deal on flat black hinges, so we bought enough for the whole kitchen. With the hinges unifying the cabinets, could we get away with using cream colored pulls on the black cabinets and black pulls on the cream colored cabinets? If you think we should use the same color hardware on both sets of cabinets, what color could we use that goes with cream and black paint and black hinges? Thanks for your help! I should have said too that we are going for a traditional look rather than a contemporary one. How would aged bronze pulls look with these colors?
Trying to fix my kitchen cabinet doors...please help? I am trying to fix my kitchen cabinet doors. The doors use hinges which fit into clean cut depressions in the door that are circular and go into the door about 3/4 deep into it. Next to these big holes that the hinge piece fits into are two smaller holes to fasten the hinge in with screws. My problem is that these holes are so worn away no molly bolt will go into them. The holes are chewed into crap and have no ability to hold anything. I have been told that there is no type of glue or wood putty which is strong enough to take the wear of a hinge area on a door so I just figure the only way to do this is to cut into the door and make a bigger depression around the areas where the screws go in so I can glue bigger pieces of wood in and then put the screws in...Is this the best way to do this or is there an easier way? It seems so complicated and expensive buying new cabinet doors that I thought I should try this instead. any thoughts?
I have polyurethaned kitchen cabinet doors that I want to paint. How is the best way to prepare them? Also, is refininshing the hinges a good idea? Painting them or how about electroplating them to match my painted doors? Any insight? If painting them is there a preferred method to prepare them?
How can I fix our kitchen cabinet doors? The doors are made of particle board (covered in laminate), and the screw holes in the wood where the hinges attach are stripped or too big for the screws now.
How much does it cost to reface cabinets? I have a small kitchen with cabinets from the mid 80's they are a dark oak color and you can feel the grain in them, the were partial painted with killz. I have 13 doors 4 of them small, 6 drawers and 2 fake drawers with no handles and do not open. i also have 1 lazy susan on the corner that rotates open, doesn't side. I have heard there is a great range in pricing and it is easy to get ripped off and pay way too much. I also need to cut corners and save money, like buy my own pulls, hinges, and doors if I could even match up the color. I hear people can do it themselves, and apply the facing but this might be too hard. Is the a website that can explain this process as well?

Kitchen cabinet refacing versus refinishing? I have 24 cabinet doors. The existing cabinetry is knotty pine wood. I was given a quote of $1500 to refinish it by painting it white. How much more should refacing be? I am thinking of using thermofoil so it looks like wood. Also, can my barrel hinge be changed over to concealed hinges?
How do you make old cabinets contemporary? I purchased a home with older pine cabinets in the kitchen that have been painted white. The paint is very thick in places and is also peeling (its latex) so I am thinking about stripping it down to the original wood. My question is at that point what can I do to make them look more modern? They are "standard" pine cabinets with recessed center inserts, without any hardware (i.e. handles) other than the hinges which are a dull copper color. The kitchen walls and trim are white.

Spray painting cabinet handles and hinges...? Our existing kitchen cabinet hardware is dark-worn-brass which no longer goes with the other updates we've made. We like the look (style/shape) of them, but would like to re-color them to a stainless steel color. We've cleaned them up and attempted several different spray paint colors that offer a metalic grey, but haven't quite reached the color that we want. Mostly they are turning out too bright, or too metalic. Or both. Has anyone tried to achieve a stainless steel color this way. Any tips? Know of any suppliers of specialty spray paints beyond the usual Home Depot / Lowe's selection?
kitchen remodel? we are fixing a little bit of the kitchen and one of the things is we are painting the cabinets and putting new hardware on them. currently we are using the flush mount hinges. i am looking in to blac nickel hardware, BUT i dont see any that also have the flush mount hinges. at least not for the look i was going for. can i go to just about any hinge?

Can kitchen hardware be antique brass if the refrigerator and viking stove are stainless steel? I also plan to do lighting and kitchen faucets in an antique brass finish. The cabinets are inset cabinets with the antique brass hinges showing as well.
Hard to find hinges...where should I look? My kitchen cabinet hinges have all started to break. The piece inside that holds the door closed is plastic and they have all started to break at the same time. They are 1 3/8" overlay hinges, but the base wing centers are 2" apart. I can not find any that are more than 1 3/4"....apparently that is the standard. I have searched everywhere I can think of...except overseas. Any ideas where to find an item like this? If I have to go with the standard hinge, I would have to drill new holes, and it would overlay the current holes...it wouldn't work. I am at a loss! I can't afford new cabinets!
Why does my kitchen cabinet door stay ajar? I close it and within a few minutes it opens on its own. What causes this? Does the hinge need to be replaced?
What to do? My sister was living in the house that my grandmother willed to me. She moved out this past Sunday and today I had a family member go assess the damage because I live out of state. The only reason she was in the house was because she wouldn't move out until I evicted her. I can't believe my own sister would do this. I think she was jealous I got the house and did this in spite. She is only 19 years old. Legally, as Executor of my grandmother's estate, what can I do?
Any self employed cabinet refinisher/replacer in Orange or L.A county? I am having a difficult time finding a quality and honest worker to either refinish(paint) and change exterior to interior hinges or replace kitchen cabinets. I have had quotes for $10k for up for 32 feet of cabinets. Another person measured and said it would be 25 feet.. Someone else said it would be 20 feets. Everyone seems to be dishonest. I am not looking for a contractor or company that hires a crew(not too happy with them) but someone who works for himself and does good work. Any recommendation or where I can go online to get someone?
Kitchen cabinet fell off....? A kitchen cabinet fell off but not at the hinges.There is still a bit of wood with a space in the middle for the rest of the cabinet to fit into. My kitchen cabinets are not aligned? I tried tightening the hinges but it seems the hole is a bit big that they are screwed into or something. My hinges are on the inside of the doors.

I would like my Kitchen-Craft cabinets to open 180 degrees? I currently have Kitchen-Craft cabinets with European style hinges in my kitchen. All of the cabinet doors open 90 degrees (which I believe is "standard" for European style hinges). I would like one of my cabinets to open 180 degrees. There is nothing next to it so it would not hit anything... is there an appropriate hinge to replace what I have?
Question for a kitchen cabinet maker or installer? Have SELF CLOSING hinges on my new kitchen cabinets and drawers with no way of opening them. I don't want pulls or catches - want the contemporary look with no hardware showing. I need some really long magnetic springs that when I push them in they will pop out enough for me to get my fingers behind the face of the cabinets. Is there something out there? (I don't want to use a router and Restoration Hardware doesn't have them.) I still need to be able to close the drawers so that the faces are flush with the cabinets or drawers. how to install kitchen cabinet doors in an older house...? Havent really tried yet, but trying to prepare. the house was built in 1979 and my father -in- law took all cabinet doors off. we painted them and soon ill put them back on. i noticed the hinges are different - they look almost like a clamp with a screw in the middle. the doors have a T shape cut - im assuming the hinges slide onto this, but not sure.?? do i take out the screw.? how do these fit on?
Is using poplar wood and MDF good for kitchen cabinets? I have a price of $2800 for prep and painting my existing kitchen cabinets but I need to keep the exposed hinges which I think exposed is outdated. I have another price of $5600 for new doors and drawers made of poplar wood and MDF and including painting them and the rest of the cabinets such as frame, rails, etc. Is using poplar wood and Mdf good? Kitchen cabinet doors rub at the top and apart at bottom....? I guess they weren't installed right. They have external hinges. Is there anything I can do so the space between them is the same at the top and the bottom, so they don't meet at the top?

Help me choose new cabinet knobs and hinges, please? We recently moved into a new home and I think the cabinet hardware is just all wrong. The cabinets are white, the floor is white tile with a pinkish tint to it and the counter tops are burgandy tiles. The walls have a fruit theme border and one wall is papered, the other walls are a nice brown color. I like a casual country style of decorating and we think the kitchen just looks to "sterile". It's a very pretty kitchen, just not exactly my style. I am gradually swtiching to a rooster theme. The current cabinet hinges are a tarnished bronze color and the knobs are shiny gold circles with white circles on the top. The hinges and knobs don't match at all! We are going to change these but I am not sure of a more country color to go with white cabinets. I like the brushed nickel but it seems to be a little comtempory, gold is too fancy for my taste. What do you think will make my white cabinets look more country?

How long should I wait before I reassemble my freshly painted kitchen cabinets and drawers? I finished the final third coat on Monday. Will wood putty work in the holes of my cabinets where the old hardware was? I want to redo knobs in kitchen.? I want to redo the hardware on my kitchen cabinets. Currently, I have what I call the "old pine door" cabinet hardware. Very dated. I feel I can update the kitchen simply buy putting in new counter-tops and cabinet hardware. The appliances and cabinets are still in good shape. I am concerned that I will have issues with finding pulls that will match up with the holes already. Plus, my hinges are on the outside and I would really like to have them on the inside. This will leave holes if I do it. My cabinets are a light pine color. I was wondering if I could just put a wood putty in the holes if needed or if that would look really bad.
How durable is paint on metal? We are redoing our kitchen and looking to replace all the hardware on the cabinets, but it is quite costly! I am painting the hinges with Rustoleum and was wondering if panting the handles would be a good idea, or if the paint would just chip off.
Tried to paint kitchen cabinets but they came out all streaky!? My wife and I tried to paint our kitchen cabinets recently---we cleaned them, and primered them with a primer that said no sanding was necessary, and then painted them a very dark brown using Valspars Kitchen & Bath Enamel. Every single one came out extremely streaky. So we took them back off the hinges, and tried a variety of things. We cleaned one, sanded it, primered it, and then painted it...same thing. We tried using a sponge brush on another...same thing. We tried using a roller on yet another, no difference. Is there a different paint we should try, or another technique? We can't afford to have them sprayed by a professional (alot of home renovations going on here) and there has to be another way to get them coming out nicely. Any suggestions?
Need more help with making a miniature model of a kitchen.? I bought some items from Hobby Lobby: Matboard, a craft knife, a T-square, another metal ruler, 2 packs of Cellform 88, flooring, ceiling tiles, and paint. I know I can make the walls out of Matboard but what can I use to make the flooring, so that the walls can be glued down? I was thinking of buying more Cellform 88 to use for the walls, floor and ceiling. So that it can hold the window, door, outlets, lights, and cabinets in place. Then attach the Matboard, flooring, and ceiling tiles to the Cellform 88. I think that will work out great, but not really sure. I also thought about make the cabinets out of Cellform 88. And to make them look better I was going to paint them dark brown and put hinges on them. The only thing I can not get is the scale. I don't know what scale to make it. I know I don't want it too small, because I want to show all the detail in the cabinets and the moldings. Also, I don't know if I should buy a kitchen sink or make one. If I make one what can I use?
Really screwed in!? one of the cabinets in my kitchen broke. the screw that holds the hinge to the cabinet broke in half, one half is in the door (which can be removed) but the other half is stuck inside the cabine wall. There is no way for me to grab and try to uncrew it. how can i get the screw out with out damaging the cabainet?
I am in NY state. I am renting to a tenant who pays their rent late every month with minimal penalties.? The lease says that there are no pets allowed. Apparently she has a dog and the dog has destroyed the carpet. I replaced the carpet at the tenants request when she moved in. She is now breaking the contract because she cant afford the rent and the lease still has 6 months on it . She already moved out and i kept the security deposit (1 month) but the damage she left is almost double that! obviously she is not answering her phone. I do have her full name and social security number. What can I do? The carpets are destroyed, the ones that I newly replaced just 6 months ago, the wood kitchen cabinets are painted!, a brand new door ripped off its hinges, and the whole place is just dirty. Now its one thing if I could just get it rented but i am not having any luck. what, identity theft? sorry a bit confused. I have the SS# from when she signed the lease. and if i want to take her to small claims, do i need an address for her? i dont know where she moved to but i have her full name and SS#. landlord wont fix minor repairs? ok i moved into a private house last week. however, some stuff i noticed about the house. the door knob is broken on the kids room. and the door in me and my girlfriends bedroom is coming off the hinges. 2 of the cabinets in the kitchen are coming off when u open them. i would like him to fix this. i cant find the copy of the lease. i think its in one of the bags due to packing. i thought it was in the car. but i dont see it. should i fix this myself since these are minor repairs even though the lease says that landlord is responsible for all repairs. we live in pa. he lives in new york
