Kitchen Counter Accessories Knowledge Base

I want a cottage look in my kitchen--what color should I paint the walls? The cabinets are oak stain (thinking of painting them white). The counter tops are beige. All my kitchen accessories are pink and green. For example, I have this pink mixer: http://www.kitchenaid.com/catalog/product.jsp?src=Cook+for+the+Cure&cat=1302&prod=486 and these green canisters: http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:Typhoon%2039284%20Vintage%20Small%20Canisters%20(Set%20of%203)%20-%20Green:2002897264 And lots of other pink and green stuff. Any thoughts for the wall color? It's a small kitchen, and I want it to be light and airy. Thanks for your advice!!!
A few questions about painting my kitchen? I am on my way to go buy the supplies to paint my kitchen. The walls currently have Kilz oil based primer on them (over several layers of unidentified white paint). The walls are textured and don't need any repairs. My questions are: 1) What kind of paint is best on textured walls? I was thinking about using matte. Is this ok? Oil or latex? Fumes aren't an issue. 2) What color should I use? My cabinets are white, my counters are a pale greyish blue, and my floors are a dark reddish brown wood laminate. All the trim, accessories, and curtains are white. I can't decide between light yellow and a blue that is a few shades darker than my counters (kind of a stormy ocean blue-grey). I like the blue a lot but I'm afraid it may make it look gloomy (and also require more coats than the yellow). 3) What supplies do I need to buy? How much paint will it take to cover a room that is approx 13x18 with 8ft ceilings? Sorry for the long question. Thanks in advance for your help
How can I get my children and my husband to listen to me and follow house rules? I work full-time night shift and have assigned chores for my family. My children pretend like they do their chores but really don't. My husband doesn't help at all and pretends like he does. I will be spending my entire Saturday cleaning house while my family is at a gathering. I am finding the most awful filth. I went outside to water flowers and found a pair of my shoes that had been missing, they were buried in mud. I found an opened can of fruit cocktail on the kitchen counter behind some dirty glasses. I found hamburger grease in a bowl in the kitchen sink. I found dirty clothes and trash and toys under one of the bathroom sinks. You can't walk through my daughter's bedroom. She makes us late for events because she can't ever find her clothes or accessories. I found trash and aluminum cans and dirty dishes and newspapers and lots of house clutter stuffed in a storage cabinet. If I open any of my kitchen cupboards all the pans or plastic or metal items will fall out. I work twelve hour shifts and they always extend to longer, ex. 12.5 with the thirty they tack on for lunch and 30 min. extra expected before shift starts, 1 hour commute one-way only, 1 hour to get ready for work, including children getting ready and dropping them at activities leaves about 6 hours avg. to sleep. This occurs three times in a row a week and during this time, Pippy Longstockings comes out of the TV and creates havoc that takes days to clean up, in between running children to activities and trying to have a life on daytime hours for a night-working person. Mrs. who called me a pig couldn't keep up with this routine I'm sure. Also to Mrs. who called me a pig, if I am to act like a mother and a wife then I would get to stay home and the husband would act like a husband and a father and be a better provider and take care of the yard and the vehicles and the bills, and enforce discipline, etc.
Kitchen wall color.... what will match flooring, backsplash, cabinets? I'm going for a cheap, quick-fix solution to boring off-white walls. So I figured it would be easier and cheapest to go with some kind of country theme. I don't have the money for granite countertops, real tile floors, new cabinets, etc. My cabinets are solid oak, and the counters are white. I'm replacing the flooring with this vinyl: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=171376-84875-171376&lpage=none I don't have any kind of back splash, and I don't have the time or money to tile, so I purchased a faux rock-wall, wallpaper to go under the cabinets, above the counter, AND, above the stove and under another set of cabinets: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=180160910989&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=008 The curtains will be autumn reds, golden-yellows, and greens. And I'd like to add some rooster wall decor and other tuscan accessories. I'm lost on the wall color. I still want the room to be warm, but nothing like a bright red or gold.
Renters kitchen? I have a galley style kitch. in an apartment that I love. The prob is the cabinets look like they are from way back in the seventies. They are the laminent syle paste on oak that look so cheap. My apartment is all dark wood/cherry. No window in kitchen. What can I do with the cabinets to open up or help to bring the kitch up to date that will not cost me my security deposit? Counters are white, stainless sink, white stove and fridge. Done in a french bistro style as far as pics and accessories. Plz help, I hate! these cabinets! some other issues if anyone has ideas, the fan does not go anywhere so although it works the fire alarm goes off all the time when broiling, and there is hardly any light even when the lights are on, no window, so if you have an idea how a girl who loves windows can make this work PLZ do let me know, ty for any and all advice
What color to do? We are currently in a kitchen remodel. We have decided on black granite counters, pine floors, and golden oak cabinets. Now I'm not sure what color to do the walls! I've been thinking about a light lavender or periwinkle. I'm just not sure. I also plan on having wrought iron accessories and detailing. And suggestions? I ment any suggestions. Thanks!
Mixing copper accents with SS appliances??????? I have SS appliances with black in them, a granite counter that is camel, cocoa, black and beiges. The cabinets are to be painted some shade of brown with black accent handles. I want to put some copper accessories in the kitchen, i.e., a copper colander and copper utensils hanging on the wall. The copper looks great with the counter top, but will my kitchen look too busy because of the SS steel appliances and black metal handles? I love it, but am questioning if I am a little over the top. What do you think? Thank you in advance.
What color should I paint my walls? I'm having trouble on picking colors that will flow from room to room. I live in an apartment and would like to paint the walls. When you enter the foyer you can see the living room, kitchen and dining room. I would say my style is contemporary. I want the apartment to look chic and glam but classy and sophisticated at the same time. In the living room I have blue furniture (royal blue) with black and white accessories. For the kitchen I was thinking a bright green. I really like the "Kelly Green" I found on the HGTV website. Maybe, even an acid-green and bring in white and black accessories to tie it in with the living room. The apartment has white appliances, dark counter tops (corian I think?), light colored wood cabinets, and a medium color wood floor. Or, I would like to paint the kitchen red (I'm really open to anything). In the dining room I have a huge sunburst mirror with gold trim and I would like to design around that. I like gold and bronze colored walls but in the living room I have silver and black lamps and silver on the coffee table and side tables. I also don't know what to paint the living room walls. I was leaning towards a light gray but I don't think it will look good if I do green in the kitchen... HELP!
