what to do with my bedroom (16yo, decorating wise)?

my parents are renovating the house, the first thing they did was renovate their bedroom (paint and all) and add an ensuite to their bedroom. next was the kitchen, then they added an extension to the family room. all the while little ol me is downstairs in a excrement hole. i have ripped and torn carpet from the 70's. filthy 20yo curtains, my room was made smaller for them to change the staircase (doesnt worry me) so i have exposed drywall, hasnt even been patched and sanded. my other walls are just filthy blonde bricks. ANYWAY ive had enough, its like theve forgotten me, tomorrow ill be moving all my furniture outside and doing the prep work so they have 2 reno my room next. i need design tips, im thinking of going with white walls, black bedspread with black accessories and stainless steel lamps/ accessories as well but it seems a little bland. how can i spice it up a bit? id like to keep it within budget (id be payin for all accessories) but i am able 2 splurge on a few things

  1. well it really depends on your taste but this is what i would love to do with my room!! its very small and people say my design will just make it look smaller but i dont care!, i want to wallpaper it white and paint the walls a chocolate brown and turquoise color in horizontal strips, the chocolate being smaller than the turquise, i want really really dark solid wood floors and dark (but not as dark as the floors) bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside locker, then accesorise with bright blues, reds and silvers like lamp, lamp shades, curtains, bedsheets etc!!, i would love it! good luck!
  2. Black, white, and silver? Hmmm... that is pretty dull. No offense! But you need some kind of color in there. What's your favorite color? Whatever it is, pick out some pillows, lamp shades, picture frames, etc in that color to spruce up the place. Or another route to go is replacing all the black things with brown (brown is kind of a man-ly color, right?). That way it'll still have your idea in it, but not so --black and white--.

  4. That's actually a great idea! And it won't be too bland! Here are a few tips: Well I'm guessing your room has four walls, so you could paint 2 white with black borders on the dashbords (black walls makes the room dark). Then the other 2 wall could be tiled; http://www.jonathanfongstyle.com/decor/decorpics/alum_rm_1.jpg Then you can have a checkard theme for the floor or black carpet or you could have rugs so black and white and even silver in a patern.; http://www.jennifersromances.com/Miniatures/bandw2.jpg Another great idea would be to put up a cubby... may sound weird but it's great for organization. If you get it in white you could paint the border of a few of the boxes in black and a few in silver and that will look awesome! : http://imagebank.ipcmedia.com/imageBank/cache/b/blackWhitep931_e_3594265457560d0a2022832e1722d72e.jpg Then add a few accents such as chairs, picture frames with vlack and white pictures of you and your buds or your fav band or whatever, and add curtains! Curtains, bed spread, and blacket add a huge effect in a room! You could get any coloured curtains: there are MANY that have black and white designs on them! And for storage you could have a few plastic boses here and there and fill them up with anything! If you have any certain black, white or silver shades you like take them (so it could be a pic in a magazine, your guitar or something...) and take it to Home Depot and they have this really great machine that maches your colour! Check out a few of these sites below for more ideas! If you see anything you like order it online or print a pic of it and take it to the store and you can get it there! Hope this helped!
  5. Two ideas. One - go to lowes and check out their Venetian plaster. I've used it twice in two different houses and in two very different rooms. I used the deep yellow in my "tuscan" kitchen - I didn't burnish the walls like is intended but after applying and drying I took a Mocha or burnt umber colored glaze (also at Lowes) and rubbed it on with a quarter piece of a slightly damp washcloth - very cool. Just last week I used the blue (not a baby blue and not the greenish blue) venetian plaster and again, got the burnt umber glaze and rubbed it on - it was again, very excellent. Gives the room a bit of interest w/out totally ruining the walls b/c if you get tired of the texture you can paint over it and the texture is so minute that it would not look odd if you then wanted to have a simple painted wall. Also, I am about to take one wall on my daughter's room and "wallpaper" it with fabric. It's easy, just find instructions using your search engine. http://www.theartfulcrafter.com/fabric-one.html The best thing about it is that it's easy to remove and you can use the fabric again for something else. Hope these ideas get you inspired. Karen
