Remodel kitchen and dining room?

I'm designing an all open kitchen and dining area. I live near the beach and want the motif to be beach cottage or perhaps a little shabby sheikish. No, I'm not gay :-) Does anybody have any ideas or cool links with photos?

  1. HGTV.com or DIY.com I think that a really Nice smooth Blue color on the Wall in a few different shade's and A nice white Crown Molding. That will give the feeling of the nice Breeze of the outdoors beach. With Some really Accents that are A nice beach Theme. But Don't Over do the beach stuff , People will get it. Do lots of pretty Art work. Lots of pretty Molding On top of the ceiling with shells on them paint Nice color
  2. You have to seriously start looking @ a shitload of kitchen mags and going to places that have kitchen displays (not Home Depot or Lowes) real showrooms even places that sell fixtures and appliances. If see something you like then remember it and maybe take about 2 weeks of looking before you get locked in cause if you rush it you'll see something else you like better the day after you sign a contract. You can do it - No Homo
  3. I would paint the room either a sand color or a real light sky blue color. Then the trim would be white. Get white sheers and accent with a darker blue like the navy boys wear, then add red accents, like bowls, vases, pillows, a grass rug or a tan rug. Keep your furniture light, even use those surefit slipcovers so you can wash them for a clean look. Then add some high green plants but watch so the sun does not burn them thru the windows. You can put an umbrella up on a table and hang little lights from it as if you are always outside, and get some comfortable big floor pillows. I would stay with light wood furniture, even wicker, to keep the feel of beach. If you like sea items, get some big glass jars and start picking up seashells every time you go out and soon you will fill them up. On the coffee table, put a low tray of sand, with shells and a little rack, then your friends can play in the sand inside. Add candles and you are ready for the party!
