what is the height of wall units from the worktop?

I am trying to design my kitchen but have no idea at what distance i leave between the worktop and the wall units. Since i dont have any tall units, I have nothing to gauge what the standard height should be

  1. Mine are set at a distance of 40cms, just been and measured them, I drew everything on the wall before I had them put up just to give me an idea of the proportions and finished height.
  2. floor to bottom of work top = 900mm top of work top to bottom of wall units = 450mm this gives a good access to the top of a standard kitchen unit shelves.
  3. I used to do them 18", to suit tiles, now do them 450mm for same reason, 400mm is right for a lot of metric tiles but would be too low in some houses.
  4. go by the tile measurements, 450 for three 150mm tiles, 500 for five 100mm tiles etc
  5. The correct distance for safety reasons e.g heat from a gas hob is 500mm top of worktop to underside of unit. Not including any lighting pelmet.
  6. The norm used to be 18", (3 6x6 tiles) Now it would be 400-450mm. But it isn't law :-) If you were on the short side in height, you might like to set them a bit lower. Also wall units come in at least two cupboard heights 720mm & 600mm so that might affect the height you put them so you can reach all shelves easily. Use 400-450mm as a guide, then do what suits you best.
  7. Hi - If your wall units include an integrated extractor, (one that a door fixes to to hide it), over a hob you will need to check the MINIMUM distance between the extractor and the top of the hob. This dimension will be in the extractor installation instructions. It's usually more for a gas hob than electric. Once you have the height for the door that is attached to the extractor, this will give you the height for the rest of the units so that all the doors line up correctly. As long as you allow the recommended minimum distance between hob and extractor you can fit them anywhere above that to suit yourself. It's important to get this height correct first because, presumably, any other wall units will need to be fitted at the same level for it to look right. IMPORTANT - If you have a tall oven/fridge-freezer housing then the top of this unit would be the top of any wall units, so that everything lines up correctly.
  8. 1- standard wall 8',3" 2- standard stand unite 36" 3- standard clearance wall unit to counter top 24" 4- standard clearance hood to cock top 30" These clearance are standard and can be more but not less.
  9. 450mm each side of the gas hob imagine a line raising up to the units the units need to b 150mm back from this line each side 400mm is the lowest height 4 units with a gas hob always go with extractor manufactures instructions when looking for fixing height
  10. if you have any full height units such as a fridge freezer housing unit the height of your wall units is governed by that height. if you have no full height units there is no maximum or minimum. as a Carpenter i have fitted a lot of kitchens and i find the best height to fix wall units at, is to work out the height on the size of wall tiles you are going to put between the wall units and the worktops. therefore saving on the amount of tiles you will have to cut. 450mm is a rough guide. hope i have been of assistance..
  11. eighteen and a quarter inches (462mm), this allows for 3 six inch (150mm) tiles plus grout joints.
  12. The top of the wall units will be at the same height as the tall larder unit, then it depends on how high you screw the feet up or down on the base units. Because you don't have any tall units, the shop or catalogue should be able to give the height of a tall unit, the work it from that.
  13. Ensuring you can reach the units to use them properly, the average distance is 300/450mm high. If you have existing sockets on the wall, ensure that none are positioned in the units, repositioning of electrics may be required. Good luck
