Creative Ways to Decorate 676 sq. ft apartment? SMALL KITCHEN Problem.?

I am moving from a small (535 sq. ft) to a seemingly much much bigger 676 sq. ft. apartment this month. I am moving from second floor to third, so I will have vaulted ceilings. I am allowed to paint, and I really want to. I wanted to know of a forum or any ideas that I could get from other people for general ideas of using color, or fun interior design ideas. I love bright colors, but what colors are the easiest to paint back over with creme? Also, what can I do with lighting and such now that I will have vaulted ceilings? I also have a VERY small galley style kitchen still. Like, I can't open my closet door and fridge at the same time they are so close. I love DIY, so any creative ideas that I can make would be great!! Thanks so much! :)

  1. I would keep the walls light. Lighter colors keep a room seeming spacious. Accent with any color you want! When you paint over it, use a primer before using cream. A color scheme to think about: (This is what I have always wanted!) Deep red Pasty/light green Pasty/light yellow Dark brown Cream Lights that shine upwards are great because it makes the room seem even taller! Hope this helps! Good luck =)
  2. Colors are wonderful...but you really need to stay away from dark colors. That will make your room look even smaller,I would maybe go into a Home Depot or a your nearest Home Improvement store. Find some colors no more than 5. Collect 4 swatch's of each color to put on you wall. Creme isn't hard to cover, different paints work different as cover up. Ask.... Leave the swatches up for about a week to see with one draws your attention and which one totally irritates your eyes. The biggest mistake is buying a color with out bringing it home first. The light in stores are very different than your home. Don't be afraid to use colors you would have thought about using. Add your taste in and things you like....Rock n Roll. Do a theme in that Hard Rock cafe style..You call always pick up prints, old records from a second hand store. Country can be a little to much so dint go full country. Use your imagination...look at restaurant your favorite restaurant style!
  3. Sounds like a great place. As far as paint, I'm a big fan of a more brilliant color 36" up from the floor then go a little lighter to the ceiling with the ceiling being white. To paint over with a cream im assuming when you move you have to repaint it, you can paint over any color easy as long as you prime it first, ex: if you go with a red paint use a red primer, blue paint use a blue primer and so on. Lighting, if you have sockets on the ceiling then go with day lightbulbs, they give off great light but do not blast light right at you. I myself have a very small kitchen and NO counter space, and for a chef that was a problem lol, So i installed what i call a fold away counter. It's a 4' long 10" wide 2" thick piece of lackered wood that mounts to the wall and has hinges to fold down when not in use, it has been a god sent. Hope some of this helped and feel free to ask me anything if you have questions, Jeff
