I nelp with my kitchen decor!?

Right now my walls are a deep red (grenadine). I have white cabinets with that red as accents in the grooves, black and white check linoleum floors(i plan to change them in the future because they are a pain in the neck),black and stainless appliances, black table and chairs, and black countertops. We are planning on getting new countertops and painting the walls and cabinets to probably just plain white. Any ideas for the wall color and type of counter tops??

  1. You didn't say what material you were choosing for your countertops but a lighter countertop will not show water marks so much when you clean it which is what I prefer. When painting walls you will need to use a primer because you've already had a dark color on them but a light fresh color like a yellow or celery green always looks nice in a kitchen. Look in magazines for inspiration. Good Luck!
  2. If you're going to paint your cabinets white, then I would go for a dark wall color, like Sherwin Williams' "hunt club." http://sherlink.sherwin.com/swapp/color_visualizer/index.jsp Countertops are all about the granite these days, and there are so many varieties to choose from!. I would go for something fairly light with flecks of green in it. http://www.marble.com/countertops/stone-selection.html
  3. Definetly dark / warm tones on the wall...as for countertop; slate really nice or even travertin and corian (little more expensive)
  4. On one of the HGTV shows, they featured someone with almost your situation. They had the black and white checked floor with white cabinet with black accents. They painted the cabinets white and brought in a great teal color for the walls and some biege basket color accessories like a floor rug and wall art that toned down the floor and made it less of a focal point yet still left it bringing its dramatic impact to the room. Hopefully this will help for some ideas until you get the kitchen you really want.
