French Bistro Kitchen: Where can I find the decor????

I decided to do my kitchen in a Parisian Bistro theme. The only problem is, I have no idea what this means! *lol* I have bought a few items but am having difficulty coming up with some ideas. I have been looking forever for a small chalkboard that I'd like to put in the corner of the kitchen on a medal easel. I'd like to put a menu on there to add to the "bistro" feel. Any other ideas? What else should go into a Paris Bistro? I did purchase a clock with the Eiffel Tower in it. What can I put on top of the kitchen cabinets? Ivy? Baskets? Help!

  1. I placed a large mirror on one wall and draped greenery around it. I purchased a bistro set with mosiac top at the "Ross" store. I place plant hangers with greenery around to seperate the dining area and make it feel like outdoors. I did the rest of my kitchen in white appliances with black trim. I get a lot of compliments on my kitchen and I rent a duplex.
  2. if you have a tiny space you might consider getting a small outdoor dining set for use indoors to achieve that look. i know it sound weird but just get a set that's not too gardeny looking
  3. Decorate with wine bottles & wine glasses, bunches of faux grapes & ivy vines, a vase with a single rose, tall candles in candle holders, "French waiter" decor items. Posters & paintings with bistro theme are everywhere, buy one or two you like and put them up. Calligraphy a couple of French recipes to frame & hang. Put up striped canvas awnings over doorways and/or windows. Authenticity demands a wrought iron (or aluminum) bistro set (a very small round table with 2 chairs). Play soft jazz music, enjoy!
  4. Hobby Lobby has a lot of this type of decor. Also could try Michael's but I think Hobby Lobby has more. I haven't been to their website but perhaps if you check there you may get ideas. Also Google Images with those keywords and you would probably get plenty of pics for those.
  5. Look at this link for ideas based upon the painting. The colors, etc http://www.lindapaul.com/Nautical_Decor_Wall_Art_Prints.asp Look at this link for the pictures of the rooms. http://www.lebistro.fr/index.htm Either grapes/wine or coffee/cafe 'themes' will work Paint the walls a golden-ish color. Purchase the wrought iron table and chairs. Make certain they are painted black. I white tablecloth would be a nice touch, with a single rose in a vase in the center. Hang a three plates that depict coffee's or wines (depending on your theme. Be sure to include the name of Le Bistro of your chalkboard and offer bengets. Green plants, in ornate urns (small or large), stripped canvas valances, flowers everywhere...all speak of the french country side. Most of all have fun decorating your kitchen.

  8. Hobby Lobby sells small chalkboards. Also, you can paint wood with chalkboard paint once it's sanded and smooth if you need to make your own. Cool Bistro set at Walmart.com for only $89.86 for table and 2 chairs!! Too cute... http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4200657
