What color appliances will work in my kitchen?

In my kitchen I have oak cabinets and oak wood laminant flooring. I really want stainless steel appliances. Right now my counter tops are butcher block, but I don't care what color they are, I just really like the looks of the stainless steel. My question is will the stainless steel work with the oak color and a basically western style decor? Also, what color countertops would you chose if this combination works?

  1. I think it will look really good together. I have stainless steel appliances, but I have dark walnut cabinets. We just built a new home so everything is new, but I think yours would look just as good. Go for it!
  2. I think stainless steet would look great. I don't know if you meant you're changing your countertops or just staining the existing ones. If you're changing them you should think about tile, believe it or not! In my kitchen I have wood cabinets, stainless appliances and ceramic tile countertops. I just got a neutral color that matched my cabinets and wood floors nicely. I used the 4inch ones. Then I used black grout so it wouldn't look dirty after very much use. If you don't like the idea of black grout you could always just seal it. And then you could use whatever color you like! Hope this gives you some ideas!
  3. I think stainless steel appliances will work with just about any cabinet type or color. Stainless steel is basically a neutral color. In general, countertop colors come in almost any color you can imagine. Most home centers/cabinet places have laminate samples that you can bring home to compare against your cabinets. Choose a color that you like, keeping in mind that neutral colors will help with the resale of your home. I tend to pick lighter beiges or grays with some sort of pattern to them. A pattern like a granite look or other stone looks nice, pulls in some other colors and crumbs show up less if you aren't always wiping your counters down. My kitchen (brand new!) right now has a black/beige granite pattern with medium reddish oak cabinets and stainless appliances. I love the way it looks!
  4. Stainless steel looks great with any color cabinets and flooring...as well as decor! that's only one of the great things about stainless and why so many home buyers like them should they decide to change the flooring and countertops down the road. As for the countertops...since you have the dark wood cabinets and flooring, I'd go with another material on the counter tops. Granite is the most popular right now because of it's durability and resale value. While granite can tend to look classy and modern, you can also find muted tones in some slabs that look very rustic and would go great with western style. I'd look for rich colors with brown, bronze and gold tones.
