Need help with replacing cabinet pulls in kitchen!?

My kitchen cabinet pulls are very outdated. I tried painting them silver to update them but they just stick out like sore thumbs now. Then I tried to buy replacements but can't find any with holes that match the existing holes. I started to drill new holes but they're so close to old holes, it's precarious to say the least. Does anybody have a suggestion short of filling some of the holes and having to paint the cabinets. They're stained medium/dark and I'd like them to stay that way!

  1. Hard ware store or make your own to get the stuff from a craft store.
  2. Have you tried Home Depot or Lowes? If they don't have anything to match, you might try the small hardware stores. And you will probably get more help from the small store. The first thing to do is measure the distance from one hole to the other, or use a piece of paper and mark the distance (I'm assuming you have two-hole handles). Take this to the store with you so you can match the holes for the new handle.
  3. It sounds like you may have started making a mess out of your cabinets. You need to take an accurate measurement of the centre to centre of the cabinet holes that is currently drilled in you doors (use mm). I would recommend that you visit Lee Valley's website or try www.hafeleamericas.com or www.hafelecanada.ca they have an extensive offering of handles and pulls that you can choose from. If you are unable to find an acceptable replacement you may have to fill and redrill holes to accept a new handle, some handles offer a flange which may conceal imperfections. Best of luck
  4. SPECIALTY HARDWARE STORE -PROBABLY BY THAT NAME
  5. Take one of your old pulls to some hardware stores with you, try to match up some pulls with the holes that already exist. There are some cabinet pulls that have a solid background with a slim wire pull(like on an antique dresser), they might hide your old holes, and give the cabinets a new look. Check on ebay for old hardware also. They have discontinued things that might work.
