Why is kitchen cabinet hardware so expensive?

I've seen some in excess of $20 and think they get much higher than that. What makes a small piece of metal so valuable?

  1. Look around you, everythings expensive. People are more worried about ripping people off as much as they can (gas prices) get used to it the end is not near.
  2. they know we can't live without it. i tried to cut corners on the little knobs for my cabinets, but it looked TERRIBLE and they didn't even skrew in well. supply and demand i'd have to guess.
  3. I have awesome ones that I got from home depot for less than 4$ a piece. I know they do get expensive but you can find nice ones cheaper. The reason they charge that much is because there are some crazy people out there that will pay it.
  4. You get what you pay for, I would assume the market controls the price of cabinet hardware. you could get a basic hinge for 3.99 or a sealed, springloaded, magnetic piece of sweetness for 35.99. It depends on the engineering involved with the hardware.
  5. SUPPLY AND DEMAND....
  6. Hardware can be purchased from 3.00 and up at home depot, lowes and menards. I've even seen them at a low cost at target. Just look around, really only the special orders are expensive
  7. I hear ya! We just did over our kitchen and I needed 50 handles!!!! I found this great site on e-bay..called Sonoma Cabinet hardware, they had exactly the same handles that I saw in Home depot for $18, for only $4.95. They have cheaper ones too...go check them out, Even with the shipping charges I did all my cabinets for just over $100. (Would of cost over $500 at home depot)
  8. I feel your pain! I shopped everywhere and got ideas of what I liked, then found them on eBay for tons cheaper. I saved 75% on my copper cabinet knobs and handles. I was even able to buy extra just in case one broke. I wrote more about my cabinets makeover on my blog at http://www.uglykitchencabinets@blogspot.com
