restoring cabinet hinges?
replating kitchen cabinet hinges

- Look in your yellow pages for a firm that does electroplating.
- If you don't want to spend high dollars to replate, you can use a spray paint. I have used spray paint on fairly shiny metals and it sticks although not as well as if it was a matte metal.
- I guess you could replate them but I don't know how to do that. I lived in an old house that someone had painted over the hinges on my kitchen cabinets and I didn't have much money and wanted them to look nice so I took them all off and took some quart jars and put stripper in them. I then soaked the hinges in the stripper and wore rubber gloves and took a wire brush and scrubbed the loosened paint off. I bought a can of metal primer and a can of silver spray paint. I laid old newspaper out in my garage and primed and painted them with the spray paint. They looked like brand new hinges when finished and I had only a fraction of the cost in them. It really dosen't take very long and the paint dries fast because you only lightly coat them. Obviously you wouldn't need to do silver, they have bronze and gold too. Probably alot of colors but I would stick with the kind made for metal. Hope this helps.
