Need more help with making a miniature model of a kitchen.?

I bought some items from Hobby Lobby: Matboard, a craft knife, a T-square, another metal ruler, 2 packs of Cellform 88, flooring, ceiling tiles, and paint. I know I can make the walls out of Matboard but what can I use to make the flooring, so that the walls can be glued down? I was thinking of buying more Cellform 88 to use for the walls, floor and ceiling. So that it can hold the window, door, outlets, lights, and cabinets in place. Then attach the Matboard, flooring, and ceiling tiles to the Cellform 88. I think that will work out great, but not really sure. I also thought about make the cabinets out of Cellform 88. And to make them look better I was going to paint them dark brown and put hinges on them. The only thing I can not get is the scale. I don't know what scale to make it. I know I don't want it too small, because I want to show all the detail in the cabinets and the moldings. Also, I don't know if I should buy a kitchen sink or make one. If I make one what can I use?

  1. Use foamcore to make the box. The best scale is 1:12, which is one inch = one foot. If you are not familiar with miniatures, go online and look up dollhouses, etc. There are many good sites, especially the Greenleaf Dollhouses site...
  2. okay first i am a kitchen designer so i recc. 1/2 inch scale for a smaller model or 1/12 as the other person sugg. you can make any shape for the sink and wrap it with alum. paper rub the shine of for a better stainless eff. u can do this for ref. etc... worstcase draw it all out and then glue onto the boards
  3. Hi: Most dollhouse are scaled at 1:12 meaning that for every inch on the doll house it will equal 12 inch or one foot for the real world house your doll is pattern ( made to repesent) after but you can make it any scale. Just that once you choose a scale every object you make for that scaled house must be at that scale in order to fit inside or repesent it perfectly For example: My real world house ( my actual house) measures 60 feet long by 80 feet wide and 21 feet high to make a doll house of it that is scaled at 1:12. How big will my 1/12 scale doll house be? Answer : 80*12= 960 inches ( this done to get it into real world inches) 60*12= 720 inches 21*12= 252 inches to get the Doll house dimensions; do the following: 960 inch * 1/12 = 80 inches or 6 feet 8 inches wide 720 inches * 1/12 = 60 inches or 5 feet long 252 inches * 1/12 = 21 inches or 1 foot 9inch high So my 1:12 scale dollhouse of my real world house ( my actual house) will be 60 inches long by 80 inches wide by 21 inch high Notice something about the real feet and the scale dollhouse inches when divide by the dollhouse scale ( 1:12) this way - The Feet and inches on the dollhouse are the same. So if you are measuring a real world object it's measurement in feet in 1:12 scale will be the same in inches for the 1:12 scale object. 4. You are making a doll house? me too. I brought all the supplies a week ago but I can't do anything on it at the moment because I am waiting for the paint to dry. for the scale do 1:12 it is the best. For the kitchen sink in my dolls house i brought a barbie one and put it into the sink i had already made, I just stuck it down with pva glue. For the floor I was thinking about using paddle pop sticks and putting shalack on them so it has the polished effect, or I might use some scraps of carpet.
  5. i made my sink from wood, then painted it to look like ceramic. the bathroom sink i painted like one i saw at Lowes with little pink flowers going around it, and painted the toilet to match. you can buy the cheap kits then modify them to suit you. we got the refig. and cut it so the doors will open and put little hinges and filled with food we made. you can print out so many cool things now days, so i have pizza boxes, milk cartons, ect. hey have fun!!! a bonus for all your dollhouse folks! http://cwoolse.tripod.com/miniprintables/accessories.html
