How do you know if you can paint kitchen cabinets? I dont think they are real wood cabinets.?

- sand then paint? i guess if they are glossy. but they are probably wood. might want to prime them first.
- I'll tell you right now that they are not real wood. You can paint them. Remove the doors from the cabinets. Lightly sand the surface to scratch the surface so the stain will sink in. Prime the surface first then paint it.
- If they are a melamine prefinished boards they can't be painted unless you put in a lot of work to scuff the surface, so the paint will get a key. A coating may not last long however.
- You can paint almost any thing. First prime it with a good primer , then when that dries, paint what ever color you choose . Decide if you want a flat paint or gloss. There are many choices in paints . The most important thing to do first is buy a good primer .
