- That was what we were thinking for out kitchen also. I think like a marroon color would look great if you have dark colored cupboards or white ones. They would stand out.
- I wouldn't paint the whole kitchen a dark "warm" red, but rather do an accent wall on the longest part of the kitchen (so not to make your room look small) also you can accent a wall that only gets sunlight on it in the winter, thus really making the room warmer.
- A friend of mine did this last year with her kitchen- she went with an apple red- not really dark but not super bright at all. She has white cabinets and flooring. Her other accent colors are green and yellow- mostly in roosters (don't ask me "why roosters" - she loves them). It looks really fun and warm; and the contrast between the red walls and the cabinetry and accents looks great! You could go to websites of paint companies or major hardware stores- many of them today have sections on their sites that allow you to see color combinations or even have programs that allow you to play around with colors. Remember that what a color looks like on a computer monitor will very different (much brighter) than what paint would look like on the wall... But it would give you a starting point- you can find a color range you like, go to the store and pick out those swatches then see how you think they might look on your wall at home. I think anything in the darker apple or wine would look nice in a kitchen- and I don't think it would look too dark since you have cream flooring and cabinetry. And as long as the rest of your accessories in the kitchen (bowls, vases, pictures) also add contrast and light- the red will serve as an elegant background. (Beware- people tend to eat more in red dining areas! So you may be doing more cooking!) - If you could find Candice Olsen's site or any of her books. She did this in her kitchen and she used pic pictures that had the creams and and reds and blacks in it,it is beautiful. Don't use the apple or the country reds. Use a deep Tuscan red. I have two walls of this and then on my other two iIpeeled off the wallpaper and left the plastered broken walls and glazed them a ginger color and I have just what I wanted.
