- Different colored plates from Fiesta ware, they sell it at JC Pennys, Elder Beerman, Belk, etc.. Don't buy all the same color pick 6 of your favorites. Paint the walls one of the vibrant colors of the fiesta ware Buy some of those sealed jars of peppers, olives, etc.. and use those for decorations. Rugs will tell the definite theme of the room. If you want to go spanish buy spanish rugs, you may want to consider italian, and primitive styles as well. Don't use flower arrangements, use fake bonzai (sp), green plants and vines, etc... If you have a green thumb, the real thing looks better. Take off at least one of the cabinet doors in a central spot and have a glass shop put in a glass front. Most cut glass is less than $10, if you have the door ready. Display the fiesta ware or some other colorful items in the cabinets. I have never had any luck painting cabinets, but if you choose to, use a cream/khaki/coffee color that is neutral. Too much color on a large area is overwhelming.
- Add some pale orange and some brick red color with a hint of turquoise and green for a southwestern theme if it is of interest. You can always find odd decorations at Pier-1 Imports, and any home store. Go with the suggested mix and match tableware and add some lively curtains. You could do alot with the colors.
- If you're allowed to paint, blue is the latest trend in kitchen decor, so I would do something like "tidewater" by Sherwin Williams, with "glimmer" for the trim & dark blue accents. If you're not allowed to paint, then you can still do the blue accents and go for a beach cottage theme. - Sounds like the colors in my kitchen...I love it. I added bits of red to make the room pop. You could hang pics or plates or both on the walls. If your cabinets are open on the top (don't have a soffit), you can put neat things up there.....greenery, bird cages, hat boxes, plates, tea pots, etc. Just don't junk it up too much. You can do so much with this room. Get you some cute window treatments/ red/white gingham would look great and make the room pop. Good Luck!
