Best place to source a new kitchen ......?

I'm in the UK and want to source a new kitchen and have it fitted by my own fitter. I have been to MFI, B&Q, Homebase but I find it all so confusing. I don't want to spend the earth on one and the ranges, prices and discounts all seem to bury me in confusion. And I don't want one that will look tatty in a few years ..... I'm okay with worktops and accessories, it's just the cabinets that I cannot decide on. Your experiences and views would really br welcome!

  1. we didn`t want to spend alot but also couldn`t afford a new kitchen.we went to B&Q and bought the cupboard fronts,in total it cost us including fittings and handles £95.we already had the worktops which were fine and up to date.It depends on your inside cupboards aswell,do they need replacing or not? no point replacing if they are fine.we saved a fortune.Theres loads of choice with the cupboard fronts and draws.Hope this helps
  2. I recently wrote an article for a client on "kitchen design software". Do a google on this phrase and check some out. Some applications allow you to design and even keeps a running total of money you've "spent". Keeps you within budget. Good luck and have fun!
  3. i did the same as you - went round everywhere and didn't like any of them especially - ended up getting one from Ikea and building it myself, with help - it was much cheaper than the others and looks really good. a few years previously i actually bought a second hand kitchen out of the free-ads for £350!!
  4. if you know a builder ask him her to open an account at howdens etc hell be able to get at least 70% off ur kitchen and if he makes a couple hundred quid off you then your both happy
