We are building separate kitchen for baby, need tips!?

We have decided to build an additional kitchen that will just be used to prepare baby formula (if for ANY reason our babies ever have to be formula fed, we realize it can happen) homemade baby foods, and snacks as they get older. This is a personal choice we have made and I am not looking for rants about cost or anything, we are doing just fine in that department. :) It will not be large, more like a large pantry size. Any tips on what should be added? Any design ideas? Have fun with it! :) It is a personal choice. I asked for ideas. Why must people Rant? It does not concern you why, just thought some might have fun coming up with ideas to help me design it. Thanks anyways. Baby bugs: lol. It really is not going to be a spectacular thing, trust me. Like I said, more of large pantry size. The cost is very low actually. It will contain a sink, cabinets, single range, flat surface stove, fridge(small), and everything will be stainless steel. It is just what we want to do and it is closer to our nursery and the kids play room/snack room. :)

  1. If you've already made up your mind....why ask us??? Won't the babies be welcomed in your regular kitchen? Is it to make things more sterile??? Remember, the less the babies are exposed to everyday germs...the more chance they have of developing severe allergies....like killer reactions....this is not a good idea....
  2. do you mean like kitchen with a separate stove and a separate fridge and a separate sink? .. like a kitchen????? Why? Does the formula need to be prepared at a special place that doesn't come in contact with dairy or pork? Or is it so it's closer to the nursery? I'm not ranting just really really curious
  3. Make room for bottles, we are allways trying to find places to put our bottles. Maybe a pacifier compartment and a place to put your bottle cleaner brush, bottle dry rack, and bottle warmer if you dont breastfeed. She's making awhole kitchen? I thought she was just talking about a little pantry type thing. Wow.
  4. It's absolutely pointless to build an additional kitchen for a baby. Formula doesn't require a kitchen, it's mix and serve. You wouldn't be able to make an adequate formula at home that would be guaranteed to meet babies nutritional needs like the brand name ones can. If you really want a separate area where all of babies food can be prepared and dishes taken care of you will need a kettle for boiling water, a fridge for storing premixed formula, boiled water, open jars of baby food etc.., a counter top dishwasher, a range (two burners is plenty) for boiling water to sterilize nipples as they can't go in the dishwasher, a sink, some counter area and maybe 4 cupboards (one for food, one for cups/plates/bowls, one for bottles and one for the couple pots for sterilizing and to put the kettle when not in use) and a drawer for the tongs for removing things from boiling water, little spoons, mixing spoons, extra scoops. You might want a second drawer for dishcloths and towels. You'll need a garbage can and recycling bins and compost bin as well. I have one small part of my counter dedicated to baby stuff. There is a large tupperware container that is just used to keep everything in one spot, a small container for the nipples, containers with covers for cereal (right now he has oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, wheat and veggies for dinner), a container with the formula (I take it upstairs at night and travel with it as I mix on demand). There's a small dishrack for drying his bottles and dishes and a bottle of water used for mixing his bottles. I have a cup in the cupboard above there that his spoons are in and a small stack of small tupperware containers I use as his bowls and for traveling with as they have lids. I then have a stand alone cupboard where one entire shelf is baby bottles, boxes of cereal, cans of formula, extras that accumulate, stuff for him to grow into like sippy cups, medications (gripe water and tylenol) and whatever else I don't want on the counter. You know if I had enough money to have even thought about building a separate kitchen for my baby, I'd probably also have enough money that I would never see the inside of my own kitchen as I would have staff to cook for me. I'm gonna go be jealous for awhile ok?
  5. Wow! You must have a large house. I personally love the color red in a kitchen. Hmm... Well, I am trying to picture this... ok, stainless, what color cabinets? If you like the modern look--stainless appliances with black details? Not exactly baby decor. How about med oak colored cabinets, light green marble-y looking counters, and playful tile backsplash? You should just walk around the kitchens in Home Depot stores, you will get lots of ideas. Good luck!
