Decor ideas?

Moving into a new apartment in a few days. This is what I'm working with....When you walk in it's a hallway and along your left side is a shoulder high ledge that separates the kitchen from the hall. It is at most 6 inches wide. Probably half that, though. under it, is the left-side kitchen counter. The kitchen is very small about 7 by 7 and the counter makes a U shape around the standing space (if that makes sense.) The counters are light blue, but can be painted white. That's all I can do paint-wise. We aren't allowed to paint the walls or anything else. The floor is neutral. Appliances are white. Cabinets are brown but can be painted light blue or white to match counters. I get the decorate the kitchen and the bedroom. My fiance gets the livingroom and bathroom. There are no windows in the kitchen. Any color scheme ideas? DIY decor ideas? I'm on a seriously small budget but want it to look nice. Details, pictures, etc always win best answers:)

  1. Sounds like you are stuck with light blue and white as a kitchen color scheme. Painting counters white might be something you will regret later due to staining. If you leave them light blue, paint the cabinets white but do some stencil or other pattern on them in the same blue as the counter to tie it all together. You need a second color to bring some life to this pastel room so I would go with bright apple red.You can find pictures, accessories and even small applicances in this color to brighten things up. Check out second hand stores and tag sales for unusual items in your kitchen colors. I love to use baskets to store things in and you can line them with bright fabric napkins for color. Get creative and store utensils in bright flower pots or pitchers. Without windows you want the kitchen to be as bright as possible.
  2. Kitchen Remodeling ideas The kitchen is considered heart of a home. Paint your kitchen in perfect colors to make cooking a pleasure. Before choosing any shade when thinking about paint colors for kitchen, you should include cabinets and countertops in your plans . Stainless steel or granite counter top can upgrade a simple kitchen as they are hard wearing with low maintenance.
