What color should we paint our kitchen cabinets???
We are remodeling our kitchen but do not want to replace the cabinets. They are in excellent condition but they are white, which doesn't work with the other colors in the kitchen. The walls are green, light green kind of like an olive/sage color. One of the walls is a "Focal" wall and it is medium brown. The floors are hard wood, mohogany. The countertop is a granite, dark green/black in color. Any ideas for what color to paint the cabinets??? Help!!

- whiteee
- I would go with a light barn red OR a wood toned color. The advantage of barn red is that you could upgrade to a different green and the cabinets will still work with the new color.
- yellow
- are they wood? you should stain them and maybe try to get it the same color as the floor? or make them medium brown like your focal wall (if they're not on that wall) or... uhhh hmm... dark green like your countertops
- I would stick with white as well - sounds like it should all go together and then pick out the drawer pulls that really "pull" everything together!
- Well, you can go safe and pick like a creamier shade of green that matches what you have already or you can make them POP and pick a bold color like a terra cotta color or just tone down the white a bit and make it off white or light beige. i just painted mine and it sucked! Have fun!!
- if it is possible, and they have a nice wood grain, I would remove the paint and put a stain on them to match the brown. Wood and granite usually work well together, and wood matches everything :)
- you sound like your kitchen is like a modern cofee house with neutral and warm colors. it also sounds very minty so i would paint them a blackish brown to keep with what you already have.
- You didn't say what your style is. I'd probably go with something safe like an off-white or beige semi-gloss or gloss that won't look as stark against the softer colors you have going on as the white does. Cabinets are difficult to paint, so I'd stay away from anything too trendy. If you really wnat to spark them up, add new handles/knobs to tie in with your decor after you've painted the cabinets.
- I would think an ivory/cream color. This would keep the cabinets light in color but not the stark white. It should blend well with your other colors. If you paint another green or brownish shade I think it might be to much green and brown would darken the room. What color is your cabinet hardware? Brushed nickel would look nice if you are changing that too.
- maybe just put a glaze over them, it will just darken them a little seems easier than painting them i'm a carpenter/ cabinet builder and this seems to be the most popular with remodeling
- Don't
- I think this question has no best answer, you would better post a photo, it may help others to judge.
- I suggest a light brown from the orange family, like Behr's "oat cake" (# 290E-2). I think it will blend well with the green & the brown to give the kitchen an "autumn-y" feel. Check it out: http://www.behr.com/behrx/workbook/
