Has anyone spray painted cabinet door hinges?

I'm painting my kitchen cabinets and want to spray paint my hinges to avoid the cost of buying new ones. I did my fans and they look great, but they don't get fooled with. I'm doing it today, so any advice would be great.

  1. Yes I have. They do suffer a lot of wear & tear from opening & closing so sometimes the paint flakes off. My suggestion would be to use a primer made for metal to help keep the paint to stay on. Oh and make sure to sand well to get good adhesion.
  2. The problem I always have with painting cabinet door hinges is that they always seem to peel from the movement. If you are painting them because someone else did, and you are trying to touch them up, you might try cleaning the old ones. The trick I use is to boiling the hinges. The old paint falls off rather effortlessly. There just might be a beautiful, original chrome coating under the old paint. Good luck
  3. Yes, hinges and handles. Had them powder coated. Wears like iron and about one third the cost of new.
  4. I have done this and they look AWFUL. If your painting you must want to improve the looks of your kitchen....buy new hardware, in the long run you will be happy with your decision.
  5. You can paint them but I would look at Ebay first as you can get hinges very cheap and pulls and knobs as well I use this seller all the time and the quality is great http://stores.ebay.com/My-Home-Hardware_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm If you are going through all the work, spend a little and get it right
