how can i match light wood kitchen table to dark living room furniture. i have an open kitchen/living area?

i want to get new furniture and i have kids so i want a darker color. my kitchen is light wood and yellow. i was thinking a dark brown or orangy color for living room furniture

1. Kay...perhaps a rust color (reddish) would connect the light color to a darker living room color. Or a complimentary color like cool blue. It would certainly liven up the area. Spartawo...
2. We have an open concept as well, so we decided to go with neutral colors for our living room furniture. We just made sure to tie in our kitchen colors in the drapes and area rug. It sounds as though a navy or brown would go beautifully. Also, we went with microfiber and have spilled everything from pen ink to oil on our furniture. It is great for kids, because everything comes out!
3. One thing you can think about is painting either the living room or the kitchen a different color giving the effect that each room has it own space, separating the two by color will allow you to do and decorate each room anyway you see fit.
