what kind of paint(s) are long lasting for painting kitchen cabinets?
I'm painting my kitchen cabinets and I'm looking for any type of paint that lasts long and does not fade away.

- I always use Benjamin Moore satin trim paint. It's a latex enamel, so it cleans up easily, but it's very durable. The secret is the prep. Sand it to give the paint some tooth, prime, and a minimum of 2 coats of finish. Hope this helps.
- I also like Benjamin Moore. I would use an oil paint for kitchen cabinets. Here's more info on painting cabinets: http://www.oldhouseweb.com/how-to-advice/painting-kitchen-cabinets.shtml
- Take you pick both answers above or correct. Take a cotton ball, and put alcohol on it, and scrub the existing cabinet paint with it. If it's a latex paint, the paint will show up on the cotton ball. If it's oil base, then it won't, and you should paint the cabinets with oil. If you put latex enamel over oil it will soon start peeling. Then you will probably have to replace all the cabinets with new, or strip all the paint down to the bare wood and start over. I did a job once where a lady just painted the cabinet doors. Her cabinets look a whole lot nicer with the new cabinet doors. She was lucky she didn't paint all the cabinets, shelves, and drawers.
