Could I add casters to a kitchen base cabinet to turn it into a kitchen cart?

I'd like a kitchen cart to match my cabinets, but can't find anything. Could I just buy a base cabinet and add casters to the bottom? I'm not sure how the bottom of a cabinet is constructed and whether there would be a place to screw in the casters. I realize I'd have to finish the back of the cabinet and do something about the toekick area.

  1. You could. You will need to probably place some blocks inside the toe kick. This will provide you with some place to attach the casters. The other option is to find casters slightly taller than your toe kick and and attach them to the bottom of the cabinet.
  2. you could, but by the time you buy the cabinet, the counter top, the casters and cut some wooden blocks to attach them to, it might be quite costly and you might be better off buying one in white or black and calling it an "accent" cart
  3. Hello, PICK UP CASTERS AT YOUR LOCAL HARDWARE STORE. TELL THE OWNER WHAT YOU NEED THEM FOR. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU GOOD INSTRUCTIONS. Casters are easy to install. Usually just 4 screws in each caster. rh
  4. Yes. I'd glue in solid blocks of wood in the bottom corners underneath and the you can get casters where you drill a 1/4" hole and insert them. You need the blocks because any cabinet you get will prob be partical board which will not be strong enough. You may want to get two cabinets and put them together back to back.
