Should my dining room furniture match my cupboards?

Open concept kitchen, table and chairs and such are now a maple finish, new kitchen is a mahogany finish. Dining area runs right into kitchen. Should I have matching furniture?

  1. it probly would be nice if it matched and even if it didnt get a small rug and put it in your kitchen and u could get matching winndow shades
  2. It is up to what you like. Different woods can blend together and look fine. Maybe you could put some cushing on the chairs to blend in with both colors.
  3. It would probably look best to have a mahogany table too.
  4. No, just find other ways to tie the rooms together, for example, if you have stainless steel appliances, get a stainless steel vase or bowl for the table. If you have red placemats, get red accents for the kitchen. Having wood that is different finishes, but still looks good together shows that you put some thought and creativity into the room. It won't look like you walked into the showroom and cashed in on the maple finish close-out sale.
  5. It depends on whether the maple is a very light maple or darker. If it's close to the mahogany, it will work fine. If it is a more contemporary light maple stain, I would replace it. My new kitchen has cherry cabinets and my breakfast table was natural light red oak. It just wasn't going to work so I replaced the table with a dark mahogany set and it works great.
