How to mute the sound of my kitchen cabinets closing?
I live with elderly people who are bothered by the simplest sounds, such as kitchen cabinets closing. I live a very busy fast-paced life that would benefit from just swinging the door closed instead of carefully placing it every time. The clear rubber bumpers from the hardware store do little to mute the sound. Are there any better options? Do the felt pads work better than the rubber ones? I bought the rubber ones because they looked like they'd work better

- buy the old folks some ear plugz
- You could get felt pads. They come in all sorts of colors, so you could probably find something close to your cabinet color. I use them on the bottom of chairs, so they don't squeak. Try going Michaels.
- Get some felt pads that have adhesive on the back, similar to the ones you would put on chair legs. They come in various sizes.
- Very simple thing is apply oil on the cabinets or doors corners you will not hear any sound
- If it's important to you, replace the hinges with soft close type. Specially designed hinges that don't allow the door to close too quickly. Find them at any home improvement store.
- I just checked in my kitchen, and we have both felt and rubber pads. The cabinets with the felt pads still make a slamming noise, because the felt is not thick enough and/or have flattened over time. The cabinets with the rubber pads are nice and quiet. It sounds like you've already purchased them, but for anyone else out there, you should try and get ones that blend more naturally with your kitchen cabinets otherwise it looks really bad. For example, if you have dark cherry drawers, I would not use plain white pads. I have seen white and brown rubber ones, and you could probably easily color the white rubber ones with a marker that is close in color to your cabinetry. These rubber pads work well with all different types of drawers.
- don't slam them
- If you're too busy to close a door properly, you're just too darned busy!
