Kitchen Cabinets:Painting Kitchen Cabinets hardware?
I have 30 year old kitchen cabinets in very good condition that I plan on painting. I would like to reuse the hardware and I thought about painting them rather than replacing them. How can I prepare the hardware for spray painting. My thoughts on this would be to spray with a high gloss enamel or flat enamel followed by clear coat. Do you know if painting hinges/pulls holds up well with use?

- Hi!.an enamel and a clear coat is the way to go...you just need to clean the hardware, and a scrub with mineral spirits and 0000 steel wool, and a careful drying with a clean rag, should do it. As far as durability, it won't match the durability of plating or a baked on enamel, but it should give you a few years of good use..if the original finish is a plating, you might want to scuff sand the metal for increased grip of the enamel. It's important to use thin coats and paint carefully, you don't want to gum up the hinge mechanisms... - If the cabinets are solid wood strip them and put a clear coat polyurethane on them. Polish or replace the hardware. 30 year old cabinets are old cabinets. I'd seriously consider replacing, or refacing them. Homeowner type paint jobs on cabinets don't stand up very long. You usually only paint cabinets when your looking to sell the house.
